The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office responded to a snowmobile accident call on Thursday in the town of Newbold, close to the intersection of Highway 47 and Bridge Road. Deputies discovered a group of snowmobiles crossing Highway 47 from east to west when they arrived. Then a southbound car struck the final snowmobile in the line-up.

The 57-year-old male snowmobile driver was declared dead at the site as a result of the incident. The motorist was released from the site after receiving minor injuries at the scene from the Rhinelander Fire Department. The subjects’ names won’t be made public until their families have received the appropriate notices.

The DNR has asked the Wisconsin State Patrol to reconstruct the collision, thus this section of Highway 47 is restricted to traffic as a result. The Wisconsin State Patrol, the Rhinelander Fire Department, the DNR, the Oneida County Highway Department, and the Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Department all provided assistance to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office on the scene.
