LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is looking into a two-car collision that occurred on State Road 44 in Lake County on Saturday afternoon. The collision resulted in the death of one person and injured another. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision took place on State Road 44 close to Rory Lane in unincorporated Pine Lakes just before 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Troopers said that a 2021 Honda CR-V that was driving southbound on SR-44 attempted to perform a U-turn just before it was hit on the left side by a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe that was also driving southbound. During the collision, the passenger of the Tahoe was thrown from the vehicle and had severe injuries as a result. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The driver was not hurt, and they are still there at the scene.
The male driver of the CR-V, who was 73 years old, sustained injuries during the collision and passed away as a result of those injuries after being transferred to a local hospital. The investigation into the collision that occurred earlier is still ongoing.
