When we’re on the shore, we like to play a game in which we flee from the waves and then chase them. But what happens if gigantic waves chase us, ghostly toting our deaths in their wake? The famous Garrett McNamara and his wife Nicole, among the best big-wave surfers in the world, face this daily struggle between life and death.
As part of the Deadline FYC House + HBO Max Screening and panel series, Garrett tries to explain his experience at “HBO Doc Panel: 100 Foot Wave” by describing the cat-and-mouse chase as the waves follow in the wake of their surfs and they follow the adrenaline rush:
“It’s like getting in a race car and driving as fast as possible on a muddy road while an avalanche comes after you. You’re taunting it, for lack of a better word, by staying under the avalanche and letting it engulf you.”
The second season, which premiered on HBO on April 16 and has already won an Emmy, focuses on the waves of Nazaré, Portugal, among the world’s largest. Every fan seeking a comparable rush is counting the days until May 21, 2023, the premiere of the third season on HBO. Will it, though? This is all we know about HBO’s 100 Foot Wave season 3.

100 Foot Wave Season 3 Release Date
As of the publication of this article, HBO has not ordered a 100 Foot Wave Season 3. Fans have every reason to be optimistic about the show’s future, given its meteoric popularity over its first two seasons. Remember that the official network aired the show on the same night as Succession, showing a lot of guts.
Despite claims that Portugal’s waves are the largest, we maintain that there are always more secrets to uncover, new challenges to face, and beautiful shores to call home. However, the game’s producers, directors, and other players have all the cards.
If the cast is willing to return for 100 Foot Wave Season 3, HBO will likely order it. Since it’s improvised, the production costs won’t be as high as they would be for a scripted fantasy series.
What Do We Look Forward To Seeing In 100 Foot Wave Season 3?
McNamara’s goal to ride the most significant recorded wave was introduced to audiences in the first episode. Season 2 found him lending a hand to others trying to swim into his line of work.
In his own words, McNamara said, “I pretty much accomplished all my goals and dreams, so I just want to help all the people around me accomplish theirs.” I’ve learned to be patient and ride the waves as they come.

The second season also gives us a glimpse into Garrett and Nicole’s personal lives as they begin a new chapter with the birth of their third child, a daughter named Fe. And here’s some encouragement for those who haven’t seen Season 2. Nicole had her third kid in front of the cameras.
According to her, “I’m actually a very private person.” However, she said that she had “absolutely no hesitance” about having that private moment captured on film. Since the first episode of Season 1, I’ve wanted to give this my all. I didn’t want to perform a mediocre job. I just had to remind myself, “Okay, from now on, I’m not going to pay any attention to the camera. I’m going to act normally and say and do everything I normally would.”
As Nicole describes, “Sometimes it frustrates Garrett because he’ll be like, ‘Don’t get so mad at me in front of the camera.'” The second season also captures candid interpersonal moments between the couple. To which she replies, “You wanted me to grab my life. So I’m just going, to be honest here.
You can expect more of the same adorable husband-and-wife banter as they raise their three kids, based on the first two seasons. And not just that, but doing it while maintaining your balance on the surfs and battling the enormous waves.
