If you’ve been keeping up with the GPU market over the past few years, you know it’s been quite a roller coaster. Although GPU costs have recently skyrocketed, Nvidia is about to introduce its next major flagship GPU, the RTX 4090.
There has been a flurry of speculation and leaks about the impending 40-series, with some particularly wild claims being made concerning the device’s power requirements and price. In either case, you can count on it to be one of the most potent GPUs on the market. We don’t know how much of this is accurate, but here’s what we’ve heard thus far.

Release Date of Publication 4090
Once Nvidia officially releases the RTX 4090, we will have access to all of the information we need, including pricing. Nvidia has a history of releasing new graphics cards every two years in the fall, so we can safely assume that the release date will be between the middle of September and the end of October.
Previously, it occurred during the height of a worldwide food and medicine shortage. Although this year has been somewhat tumultuous, the chip supply chains are in much better form than they were in 2020. The RTX 4090, then, has a better chance of beating the RTX 3090 in terms of speed to market.
Nvidia’s testing timetable for the impending fall release, which includes August and September for mass production of the device, was leaked in late May. It’s still possible that this is all wrong. Given that in May there was talk that the RTX 4090 will launch in the middle of July, this seems plausible. This obviously did not occur, and it is out of sync with Nvidia’s typical fall release schedule.
On the other hand, Nvidia could push the reveal back until early 2023. The explanation for this is straightforward: they simply have too many RTX 3000 series chips on hand. Chips stacked up in warehouses because of logistics problems during the pandemic; Nvidia may be hoping to sell them before releasing the next generation of graphics processing units (GPUs).
Rumor has it that Nvidia will only sell the RTX 4090 and delay the sale of the mid-range 4000-series cards until they have sold off their excess inventory. This would help lower the cost of more mature chips down to compete with AMD’s offerings.
Price
The price of the current king of graphics cards, the RTX 3090, which has fallen from its original $1,999 to its current $1,499, has been steadily decreasing. We expect the RTX 4090’s final price to be higher than that, but it won’t exceed $2,000.
These days, with AMD snapping at Nvidia’s heels, pricing is crucial. For a lesser price, AMD’s Radeon RX 7000 line of graphics processing units (GPUs) looks like it could be just as powerful. Retailing at $900, the current-generation AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT is $500 cheaper than the current Nvidia RTX 3090 Ti. We can only speculate whether or not Nvidia will become more price-competitive in light of its recent financial struggles in the gaming industry.
A word on the grapevine about the construction industry
It is speculated that the Nvidia RTX 4090 will have 16,384 CUDA cores, 144 ray tracing cores, and 576 tensor cores. It might theoretically be 40% more powerful than the RTX 3090 as a result of this. It will have the same 24GB of VRAM as the 3090. Kopite7kimi, a Twitter leaker, claims instead that the RTX 4090 will have a base clock speed of 2235 MHz and can boost up to 2520 MHz, making it more than twice as fast as the RTX 3090.
A source of power
As far as we can gather, the RTX 4090 will be an energy-guzzling beast. For the sake of brevity, its maximum power consumption is estimated to be around 600 watts. Because of the potential for heat and noise, some gamers may choose to use their graphics processing units at lower clock speeds. It will ship with a regular 12-pin PCIe Gen 5 power connector, but an adaptor will likely be required to actually use it.
It may be standard or be an added extra that you have to buy. We don’t expect the latter to occur, as Nvidia typically doesn’t nickel-and-dime customers. 600 watts is a lot of energy regardless. Power consumption for the older generation RTX 3090 can reach 385 watts. It is long past due to replace your power supply because the RTX 4090 will transfer enough energy to heat your home.
Performance
The RTX 4090 must find a method to channel all that power into smooth visuals, which is not the same thing as saying it must improve performance. Even though they are pricey and difficult to obtain, there is no doubting the superiority of high-end Nvidia GPUs. However, the RTX 4090 has the potential to create an entirely new category.
First of all, kopite7kimi claims that the card will be able to get a score of 19,000 on the Time Spy Extreme benchmark. In comparison to the RTX 3090’s score of 10,000, this would make it the fastest GPU ever made. The RTX 4090, according to some rumours, can achieve 160 frames per second in 4K with ray tracing and DLSS enabled. If the reports about this card’s popularity among gamers are true, then it’s a sure bet.
Raw performance is even more surprising. The RTX 4090 is likely to become the first GPU to break the 100 teraflops bar. These are staggeringly impressive metrics, but let’s be honest: this is an enthusiast-only card. A level of performance like this is on the fringes of what consumers want.
