(KWTX) McGregor, Texas After a shooting occurred on Thursday morning in McGregor, a senior law enforcement official confirmed to KWTX that five people had been killed and a suspect was in custody. An incident occurred at a home in the 900 block of Monroe at around 7:30 a.m. According to the official, an unnamed guy shot and killed his wife and their two children.
When police arrived, they discovered the bodies of two more people who had been taken to a nearby house. The body of one female was discovered in the street, and the other was discovered inside the next house. It has been claimed that the shooter was shot by police in McGregor and then transported to the hospital.

A prayer vigil was held at Bethlehem Christian Church in McGregor on Thursday night. Many came together to pray and remember the victims. Our town has been utterly destroyed by this horrible and pointless act of violence. McGregor Mayor Jimmy Hering asked for prayers for the families as they were informed and for the officers and the town.
The McGregor Independent School District said on their website that all after-school events have been canceled and grief counselors will be present at all campuses today. All MISD activities, including the junior high pep rally and all junior high and sub-varsity games, have been canceled “in light of today’s events, and out of respect for the victims,” the district stated in a statement.
Reports of the shooting were initially made by locals living around Monroe and West 8th Street. When police finally came, a nearby construction worker informed KWTX that he had seen a wounded individual lying on the ground and a man firing shots at another person.
According to the witness, many police units were chasing the gunman after he fled the site. That has not been confirmed by the authorities. McGregor ISD sent out an alert to parents and employees shortly after the incident and closed down campuses for a short period of time.
It was reported that “rumors abound about what seems to be a tragic catastrophe in our community,” as McGregor ISD Superintendent James Lenamon put it in a message to the town. This morning, a shooting occurred during a domestic dispute in McGregor. After the incident, MISD went into a 15-minute “lockdown.” The lockout was removed once the superintendent was given the “all clear” from MPD, he explained.
According to Lenamon, grief counselors will be available at all district schools. All of our efforts are focused on ensuring the safety and health of our students and employees. In order to provide for your children’s needs, we shall be available today and in the future.
Also on Thursday, the Troy Independent School District announced that all middle school, freshman, and junior varsity football games were being canceled “due to the sad shooting in the McGregor neighborhood.” The district remarked, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to those concerned.”
Lori Aviles and her daughter Natalie were named as victims on a GoFundMe page. Family members are holding a fundraiser to cover funeral costs and provide for those left behind. The identity of the shooter and victims has not been made public by authorities.
