5 People Were Injured When A Fuel Tanker Caught Fire On Interstate 95 In Delray Beach

DELRAY BEACH, Florida — Five individuals were hurt when a petrol tanker on Interstate 95 in Delray Beach caught fire after a three-vehicle collision close to the Atlantic Avenue exit.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision took place in the northbound lanes just south of the Atlantic Avenue intersection at around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and included two additional vehicles.

Heavy smoke and big flames were produced by the crash.

According to Delray Beach Fire Rescue, three victims had serious injuries. Later, at 5:51 p.m., they reported that a total of five persons had been harmed.

For the majority of the afternoon, there were significant traffic backups in southern Palm Beach County as motorists looked for alternate routes.

Just before 4:30 p.m., all southbound lanes were reopened. Around 5:30 p.m., two right lanes on the northbound side were reopened, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to FHP, the collision occurred as the petroleum tanker and two automobiles were travelling northbound on I-95. One of the vehicles crossed over into the path of the fuel truck, which led to a collision. The fuel tanker truck flipped over and started burning.

According to Delray Beach Fire Rescue, fuel from a tanker poured into an I-95 storm drain and started a second fire on the west side of the freeway.

To put out the massive fires, Boca Raton Fire Rescue, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, and Delray Beach Fire Rescue all responded to the scene. As well as responding to the scene were FHP and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigations into the crash’s cause are ongoing.
