According to Raoul, an ATF investigation turned up known suburban gang members and their friends who were engaged in the smuggling of drugs and weapons. The Lake County Special Investigations Group (SIG), according to Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, played a significant role in the investigation.
Over months, Covelli claimed, several controlled purchases were conducted in Lake County with undercover officers from the SIG, ATF, and other federal agencies. Sheriff John Idleburg of Lake County remarked, “We achieve effective operations such as this via close collaboration with our federal, state, and local partners.
“Finding and apprehending violent offenders, drug dealers, and traffickers, as well as seizing their dangerous substances and unlawfully held firearms, is our top priority in Lake County. We have a zero-tolerance stance against both the sale of illegal drugs and violence. To keep the county secure, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office will keep prioritizing these investigations, Idleburg continued.
The solicitor general’s office reported that in addition to Davis, seven other people were charged. Three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled narcotic, four counts of unlawful use or possession of firearms by a felon, two counts of unlawful sale or delivery of a handgun, and two counts of armed habitual criminal were brought against Steven Jordan, 47, of Aurora.
Derrick Jordan, 46, of Aurora, was accused of using a weapon while a felon on two counts. In Aurora, 39-year-old David Stewart was charged with one count of delivering a controlled drug illegally. Robert McBride, 43, of Aurora, was charged with two charges of delivering a controlled substance illegally, two counts of being an armed habitual offender, two counts of using a weapon as a felon without authorization, and two counts of delivering weapons illegally.
One count of illegal drug distribution and one count of illegal sale of an unlicensed handgun was brought against Clifford Carter, 34, of Bensenville. Huriel Hernandez, 24, of Bensenville, was charged on five charges of using a weapon while a felon, three counts of selling or delivering a handgun without a license, and one count of running away with a firearm.
Emarrion Pittman, 20, of Montgomery, was accused of delivering drugs illegally on two separate occasions. The purpose of ATF is to work closely with state and local law enforcement partners to prosecute gun traffickers and people who pull the trigger. This was stated by Jeffrey Matthews, acting special agent in charge of the Chicago Field Division of ATF.
