Cabrera carjacked an unsuspecting victim at gunpoint on January 19, 2022, while the two were at a gas station. Attempted traffic stop on Cabrera that same day by ATF agents and Lakeland PD officers.
Even though it was the middle of the day, Cabrera managed to flee at speeds of over 100 miles per hour on I-4. Cabrera, while evading capture, opened fire from his driver-side window, striking several agents and officers. The pursuit was called off after ATF agents fired back and hit Cabrera.
The shooting injured no bystanders. In a second case, the State Attorney’s Office (10th Judicial Circuit) accused Cabrera of attempting to kill police officers. All defendants are deemed innocent until proven guilty, and an indictment is nothing more than a formal claim that they have broken federal criminal law.
