A father was killed, and two kids were left needing assistance when a car plunged into Lake Macatawa early on Sunday morning. Deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Lake Macatawa in the vicinity of Jenison Avenue and Lakeway Drive just after 9 a.m. after learning that someone had driven a car into the water.

A 52-year-old Otsego man had driven into the water sometime overnight, the deputies discovered upon their arrival. When it crashed, two kids in the car managed to get out and find safety on a porch nearby before seeking assistance later that morning.
Both kids, who were 8 and 10, were sent to the hospital to receive treatment for exposure to the cold. Since then, they have been released. The dive team discovered the vehicle at around 2:00. A man’s body was found in the car. His identity is kept a secret until informed. What caused the vehicle to crash into the lake is unknown.
