A car check on Route 44 close to Interstate 90 resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old Ashtabula man on charges of felony narcotics possession and firearm possession.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle being driven by Ashtabula resident Landon Hunter Lee Reynolds was stopped around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday for an equipment violation.
The officer detected a pungent stench of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle. According to reports, Reynolds acknowledged having marijuana on him.
After the car was searched, an unloaded handgun and a loaded handgun were found. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, both rifles’ serial numbers had been erased.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, minor amounts of marijuana, hallucinogenic mushrooms, and drug paraphernalia were also found inside the car.
According to sources, Reynolds was detained and charged with illegally handling a firearm, a fourth-degree felony, and violating the Constitutional Carry Law and its provisions, a third-degree felony.

The Ohio Revised Code’s former concealed carry license requirements, including a background check and firearms training, are no longer necessary for “qualified adults” to legally possess or disguise a handgun under the new Constitutional Carry Law.
Also, Reynolds was charged with two counts of defacing a firearm, criminal tool possession, underage alcohol possession, drug paraphernalia possession, and a violation of standard equipment, all of which are misdemeanors.
He was sent to the Lake County Prison for processing. He was later freed on a $5,000 bond following his Monday arraignment in Painesville Municipal Court.
The first court appearance is scheduled for March 14 at 8 a.m. in Painesville Municipal Court.
