DALLAS  – On Saturday morning, a shooting at Methodist Dallas Medical Center claimed the lives of two hospital staff. Around 11 a.m. on Saturday, according to Dallas police, a shooting took place inside the hospital on the 1400 block of North Beckley Avenue.

The perpetrator shot and killed the employees, according to the hospital’s preliminary investigation, before being confronted by a Methodist Health System police officer. Nestor Hernandez, a 30-year-old suspect, was wounded when the cop shot him. He was then apprehended, kept under control, and taken to another hospital for medical attention.

The suspect shot two maternity unit nurses, according to the CEO of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas. Hernandez was wounded by a single bullet fired by a nearby police officer who witnessed the suspect brandishing a gun. Hernandez was detained by Methodist Health System Police for capital murder.

According to Dallas Police, Hernandez was wearing an active ankle monitor at the time of the shooting and was currently on parole for aggravated robbery. The incident, according to Dallas police chief Eddie Garcia, was “an appalling breakdown of our criminal justice system.” On Saturday morning, Denise Jones claims she was on her way to the hospital to see her parents when she received a call from her father.

“There is a shooter inside the building, he declared. Get back in your car and leave the hospital as soon as you can, he commanded “Jones uttered. According to Jones, her father sat a chair up against the door of his wife’s hospital room and locked himself inside. The hospital claims that there is no present danger.

Dallas Police are assisting Methodist Health System Police in their investigation of the shooting. “Our city loves our healthcare heroes, and our inhabitants will be there for them as we grieve and seek speedy justice,” Dallas mayor Eric Johnson wrote in a tweet. The CEO of the Texas Nurses Association, Dr. Serena Bumpus, RN, remarked, “Our hearts are torn. “This must change.

Nobody should ever feel threatened just for showing up to work, especially a nurse or other healthcare professional whose life’s job is to aid in the recovery of others. We hope that our legislators are aware of the necessity to safeguard healthcare professionals.” FOX 4 questioned Methodist on Saturday on hospital security as well as other issues, but Methodist chose not to reply. The victims’ identities have not been updated by the police.
