According to school officials, a kid was detained after a video surfaced showing two other people hitting a girl on a school bus in Florida. About 40 seconds into the cellphone footage, which was uploaded to social media, two students can be seen repeatedly pounding the girl in the head.
According to NBC Miami, the third-grader was attacked on a bus leaving from Coconut Palm K-8 Academy in Homestead, Florida, on Wednesday. Friday afternoon, NBC News was unable to quickly reach a Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokesperson for comment, but the district notified NBC Miami that it had made an arrest in connection with the assault.

The district stated, “Miami-Dade Schools Police arrested the offender and they will be charged accordingly.” “Those implicated will also face punishment in accordance with the Student Conduct Code. The incident started when a verbal altercation descended into violence, the girl’s mother told NBC Miami. Although the vehicle was packed, neither children nor adults can be seen stepping in on the video.
The girl occasionally squats in her seat and covers her head with her hands as a form of defense. Another time, one of the boys pauses punching her as the other boy comes at her from behind with a barrage of blows. The students’ names are unknown, and nothing is known about the girl’s health.
The district stated in its statement that,
“the safety and well-being of our students are of the utmost priority.”
