Police reported that during a search warrant executed in Waukegan as part of an investigation, nine persons were detained and eight guns as well as hundreds of rounds of ammunition were confiscated.
The Street Crime Unit (SCU), according to the Zion Police Department, started investigating a variety of cases on November 16 and has since spent “countless hours conducting follow-ups, accumulating data, and combing through evidence.”
The recent violent crime sparked the investigation. Police claimed that multiple operations were planned to apprehend the criminals and that search and arrest warrants had been acquired.
Several of the “primary targets” were spotted at a house in Waukegan near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Linden Avenue as a result of the investigation.

According to the police, those involved had a history of using deadly weapons, and some had ties to the Maniac Latin Disciple street gang. To help with serving the warrants, the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System Emergency Service Team (EST) was contacted.
When the EST and cops arrived Monday evening, four persons fled the residence and made an effort to leave in a car. Zion and the EST received assistance from the Waukegan Police Department and the Special Investigation Group (SIG) of the Lake County Sheriff in capturing the four suspects.
Along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition, three guns were found. Five more people were taken into custody, and the Waukegan, Illinois, residence on Atlantic Avenue was secured, according to the police.
Five other firearms, ammunition, powdered cocaine, cannabis, gang indicia, and burglary proceeds were found during the search of the home. Charges of aggravated unauthorized use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon were brought against Anthony Gallegos, 21, of Waukegan.
Accused of two counts of aggravated unauthorized use of a weapon is Ricardo Cruz, 36, of Waukegan. Gregorio Gomez, 33, of Waukegan, was accused of two counts of using a weapon unlawfully in an aggravated manner. He was also the subject of a warrant for parole violation.
Arian Vazquez, 19, of Zion, was detained on suspicion of forgery and aggravated domestic assault. The charge of illegal ammunition possession was brought against Carlos Colon, 22, of Zion.
The four other people who were detained during the operation were freed without being charged. According to authorities, additional charges are pending laboratory and forensic digital analysis.
According to a statement from the agency, “The Zion Police Department wishes to thank the supporting agencies who participated in bringing this case to a successful resolution without loss of life or injury.”
