The Showtime series “American Rust” began on September 12, 2021, and is currently in production. According to the show’s official description, it’s based on Philip Myers’ 2009 novel of the same name and takes place in the ideal setting for a crime show: an impoverished Western Pennsylvania Rust Belt town where desperation motivates individuals to commit crimes. It starred Jeff Daniels in the title character, who played Del Harris, a chief of police who is ethically divided and eventually corrupted.
When you read that description, you might be reminded of another Pennsylvania crime drama series on a premium cable network in 2021 that starred an award-winning actor, such as “Mare of Easttown.” You wouldn’t be the first person to make that parallel.
“American Rust” Season 1 ratings were not very strong (according to TV Series Finale), and despite the fact that the show faithfully reproduced the original material from Myers’ novel, the show left plenty of potential for Season 2 and beyond to develop. Since the Season 1 finale episode of “American Rust” aired on November 7, here’s all we know so far about a prospective Season 2 of the hit television show.
The release date for American Rust Season 2 has not yet been announced.
The network has not yet chosen whether to cancel or renew “American Rust” for a second season, hence there is no set release date for the second season as of this writing. It’s all we can do to hypothesize about when Season 2 could be released based on Season 1’s production timeframe — with the proviso that Season 1 was recorded during the COVID-19 epidemic, which means that any conceivable future production timelines might look drastically different from the original.
“American Rust” received a series order from Showtime in July of this year, after spending several years in development hell prior to that (via Variety). After several pandemic-related delays, Season 1 of The Walking Dead ultimately began production in March 2021 (according to Trib-Live), with the first episode premiering the following September.
As a result, given that it took around six months from the start of production to the debut, the earliest we might expect Season 2 to air would be six months after Showtime acquires the series. June 2022 will be six months from now.
#AmericanRust – A slow burn crime drama set in the non glamorous parts of america

What Actors And Actresses Will Appear In American Rust Season 2?
If “American Rust” is renewed for a second season, it is probable that there will be at least a few new cast members introduced. Until then, all we can say is that, in the event of a possible second season, the principal characters who survived Season 1 should return for an encore performance.
Among those who appear are Jeff Daniels as Police Chief Del Harris; Maura Tierney as his love interest and warehouse worker Grace Poe; Alex Neustaedter as her son, Billy (who is currently unconscious; more on him below); and Mark Pellegrino as Billy’s father and Grace’s husband, Virgil (more on him below). Among the cast members are David Alvarez, who plays Billy’s closest buddy Alex English, Bill Camp, who plays Alex’s father Henry, and Julie Mayorga, who plays Lee, Alex’s sister (and Billy’s former lover). F
inally. Rob Yang will very certainly return as Del’s subordinate Steve Park, in what will almost certainly be a more prominent role in Season 2 – read below for more information.

So, What Exactly Is The Storyline Of American Rust Season 2?
As we highlighted in our article on whether or not “American Rust” will be renewed for a second season, Season 1 finished on so many cliffhangers that it’s quite clear where the show will go from here on out. The most significant twist is that, after spending all of Season 1 investigating Billy for the murder of cop-turned-drug dealer Steve Novick, Del finds himself now investigating and covering up a triple homicide that he personally committed. Del was forced to kill two of Novick’s accomplices, as well as their 87-year-old relative, out of fear for his life.
f you missed it, here’s a recap: Del’s subordinate Steve Park (Robert Yang) was skeptical of Del’s participation in the killings at the conclusion of Season 1. As a result, in a possible Season 2, Del would find himself in Billy’s shoes, with Steve Park taking on the role of the character Del.
Additionally, Del discovered at the conclusion of Season 2 that Novick’s true killer was Billy’s buddy Isaac English (David Alvarez), and that Isaac killed Novick in order to protect Billy. Del made the decision to conceal Isaac’s involvement. As a result, Del will be a very busy guy in Season 2.

Final Words-
Aside from that, life in the Poe home — which, technically, does not exist anymore — is rather dramatic. Grace, Billy’s mother, set fire to her own home in order to be able to live closer to her son Del. She was also attempting to organize the employees at the warehouse where she worked, but her efforts were eventually unsuccessful. Last but not least, Billy himself endured a brutal jail beating that rendered him unconscious. Overall, there’s a lot of potential storylines for “American Rust” Season 2 to explore further.
