A 76-year-old lady is in custody after fatally shooting her terminally sick husband in the head at a hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Saturday, according to authorities.
According to Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari E. Young, the 77-year-old patient with terminal illness formed a plan with his wife three weeks before being admitted to the Advent Health Hospital to “end it” if his condition deteriorated. Police did not disclose the man’s condition.

According to authorities, the individual wanted to use the gun to kill himself but was physically unable to do so. According to Young, his wife declared that she “couldn’t go through with it” after planning to commit suicide.
Later, the woman locked herself inside the hospital room. Soon after 11:30 a.m., police arrived at the hospital, and hostage negotiators spoke with the woman, whose identity hasn’t been made public. She was taken into police custody at 3 p.m., according to Young.
Since several patients were on ventilators and could not readily be evacuated, keeping them on the 11th floor, where the hostage crisis occurred, was a “logistical nightmare,” he noted.
According to Young, the woman is being held and might be a first-degree murder suspect. She’s in a difficult circumstance and is quite depressed, Young added.
It’s unknown if the hospital had a metal detection security system or how the woman entered with a gun. Additionally strange is the precise weapon used in the incident. According to Young, there is no police presence at the hospital.

During his shift in the emergency room, Dr. Joshua Horenstein, a cardiologist at Advent Health Hospital, learned of the shooting. In a supply room with a nurse, Horenstein told CNN that “someone came in shouting in the emergency department that this was not a drill and to shelter in place.”
After around 90 minutes, according to Horenstein, he could finally exit the supply room.
