Early on Saturday morning, law enforcement officers in Florida discovered a baby girl wrapped in a blanket that was still linked to her placenta on a hill outside a trailer park. According to a press statement from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies who responded to a call about a baby wailing outside near Mulberry, which is located east of Tampa, found the girl around an hour after she had been born. Temperatures were in the low 50s (about 11 degrees Celsius).

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the infant was healthy and stable after being transported to the hospital by medical personnel from the county. It is only by God’s grace that we could find the baby girl who had been abandoned at the time that we did, before the harsh weather or any animals could have caused her any harm.
“Even though she was left in an extremely vulnerable state, she is a courageous little girl, and it appears that she is doing quite well,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. Although they utilized a bloodhound, a K-9 unit, and a drone to search for the mother, the deputies were unsuccessful. A safe haven statute in the state of Florida permits parents to leave their children in a medical facility or fire station for up to seven days after birth.
