Aquaman was too good not to have a follow-up. In the 2018 DC Extended Universe movie, Jason Momoa, who is 42 years old, played Arthur Curry/Aquaman. The movie got a sequel that will come out in 2022. Aquaman 2 is made by DC Comics and distributed by Warner Bros. Its official name is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. It will continue the story of Momoa’s Aquaman, who was first seen in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League. Aquaman is the leader of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis (2017). Aquaman came out on December 21, 2018, and both fans and critics liked it. It made over $1 billion around the world.
While the first Aquaman movie was being made, ideas for a second one came up. Jason made it clear that he was all for being the underwater hero again. Warner Bros. started making plans for the sequel’s script in February 2019, and James Wan signed on as director again more than a year later. Soon after that, Jason and some of the other actors who had been in the movie before were officially added to the cast. Fans are counting down the days until Aquaman 2 swims into theatres.
Aquaman 2 Release Date
The movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is now set to come out on March 17, 2023. The second movie was supposed to come out in December 2022, but fans will have to wait a little longer. Variety says that this is because of delays in making COVID-19 in the visual effects department. It’s not the only Warner Bros. movie with a new release date. Black Adam, with Dwayne Johnson, The Flash, Willy Wonka, and Shazam! Some of the other movies on the move include Fury of the Gods.James Wan, who is in charge of the sequel, posted on social media to say that filming will end in January 2022.
He posted a picture of himself, Momoa, and Patrick Wilson celebrating the end of filming on Instagram with the caption, “Finally, finally, finally, picture wrap on the actual last day of Aquaman 2.”
Aquaman 2 Cast
King of Atlantis Arthur Curry, played by Jason Momoa, is back as Aquaman. A day before the start of his first day of filming in London, Momoa announced on his Instagram page that he will be bleaching and highlighting his hair once more. Khal Curry recently unveiled the first image of a new outfit for the upcoming film. The garish, ostentatious gold and green armour that was saved at the conclusion of Aquaman can be switched out for the new, sleeker, darker stealth outfit. The suite is “Atlantian tech based on cephalopods camouflage ability,” according to Wan.

The suite is less bevelled, and the boots lack gauntlets and fins in addition to the more subdued colour palette. Jason Momoa acknowledged helping to craft at least a portion of the manuscript that Wan and author David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick would later polish and complete in an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show in May 2021. Momoa said his co-writers and the director had “100% encouraged” him, adding, “All our hearts are in it.”
As Mera, the water-bending Atlantian, Amber Heard is back. Heard resumed her role during extended filming for the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League and is currently doing the same for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom despite high-profile judicial and tabloid drama. In preparation for this superhero movie, she shared a snapshot of herself performing suspended push-ups and a little video of her twirling a staff.
Black Manta, the human adversary of Aquaman, is being resurrected by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. He posted updates on his preparation for his comeback, and it’s obvious that he’s looking forward to the sequel. He is cited as saying in an interview with THR, “In Aquaman, we simply got a little introduction to Black Manta and to some of his objectives. I got to workout and breathe a little deeper during this one. With this one, I’m demonstrating various different hues, and the performers get a lot of opportunities for engaging storytelling.
Orm from Patrick Wilson is also coming back. Wilson shared a photograph of a sweaty silhouette taken in April. James Wan provided a first glimpse at Orm, who looks more like a buff Cast Away than an Ocean Master and is unexpectedly on land. Aquaman isn’t the only character with a new appearance.
Temuera Morrison, who previously played Arthur’s human father, and Dolph Lundgren, who previously played King Nereus of Xebel, one of the Seven Kingdoms of Atlantis, are both returning.

Aquaman Recap
In Aquaman, which took place some time after 2017’s Justice League, Arthur tried to take over as King of Atlantis from his brother-turned-enemy Orm.
Orm was determined to start a war between those above and below the water, so he asked Black Manta for help to cement his position as the Ocean Master above the other underwater kings. The only chance was for Arthur, who never liked taking responsibility, to make his half-brother King instead. To do this, they had to find the lost Trident of Atlan, an old artefact that can only be used by the real king of the sea. With it, Arthur was able to turn all the forces that threatened the Overworld against Orm and get them to help him.
But in a scene after the credits, a healed Black Manta vowed to get even, so we don’t think this is the end of that story.
Aquaman 2 Start Filming
In early June 2021, James Wan revealed the title via a picture from a production meeting. Cameras officially started rolling later that month, with Momoa revealing he first landed in London to start filming in July 2021.
Aquaman 2 Storyline
At the DC FanDome panel in August 2020, Wan said, “The second one is a little bit more serious and a little more relevant to the world we live in now. It wants to go in that direction. Fans who love the movie for its cheesy fun were worried when there were hints that the tone might be changed, but Wan’s refusal to move forward until the script and story were right should give them strong faith. In an interview in August 2021, Wan talked a little bit more about why he chose to make the sequel darker.
