In a new SNL segment, the stars of Hollywood are introduced to the fictitious game show “Send Something Regular,” in which they are given the task of sending “normal” text messages to one another. Saturday night’s episode featured Miles Teller as the game show presenter, and the sketch involved four male competitors who had to respond to a woman’s Instagram direct message “in a way that is natural.” (A brief history of “Saturday Night Live”)

A hundred million dollars awaits anyone who can do this task, but as you’ll see in the video clip below, it’s not so simple for the celebrity participants. The spoof primarily targets Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Armie Hammer of The Walking Dead, both of whom have been the subject of recent controversy after embarrassing texts purportedly exchanged by them to third parties surfaced online.

James Austin Johnson plays Hammer and Mikey Day plays Levine. Meanwhile, SNL cast member Bowen Yang appears as himself, and Kenan Thompson as Neil deGrasse Tyson (who acknowledges he might send an improper text in another reality, but not this one).

There’s a scenario where a female listener of Levine’s sends him a message praising his work. The musician responds with texts like “Hoooly Moly,” “Hooooooly moooly,” “Holy crap,” and “Your physique is making my penis grin.”

Hammer’s response to a concerned “fan” who asked about his well-being did not fare any better. Star of “Death on the Nile,” whose claimed texts include references to cannibalism, said, “I wish to break open your bones and drink of the marrow.” Levine and Hammer’s reactions were obviously inadequate.

Saturday Night Live Returned After a Cast Shake-Up

For those of you keeping count, that was the premiere of SNL’s 48th season. Several of the show’s most prominent actors, including Kate McKinnon, Pete Davidson, Aidy Bryant, Alex Moffat, Chris Redd, Melissa Villasenor, and Aristotle Athari, left the cast before the new season began.

But many familiar faces were back, including Kenan Thompson, Heidi Gardner, Cecily Strong, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, James Austin Johnson, and “Weekend Update” hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che. Recent additions to the cast include Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, and Micahel Longfellow.

On October 8, Brendan Gleeson will host and Willow will perform as the musical guest on a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live. On October 15, Megan Thee Stallion will host and perform as the show’s musical guest.

Last month, the “Sunday Morning” singer, now 43, made headlines after being accused of cheating on his pregnant wife, Behati Prinsloo, and sending improper social media messages to other women. Later, Levine revealed that he had sent seductive texts, but he still rejected the infidelity rumours.

In a statement sent to his Instagram Story on September 20th, he admitted, “I used bad judgement in interacting with anyone other than my wife in ANY kind of flirty manner.” Even though I didn’t have an affair, there was a time in my life when I stepped over the line. At times, it simply wasn’t acceptable. I have talked about it and am taking measures to fix it with my loved ones.

In January 2021, Hammer was accused of sending many women NSFW texts detailing his sexual fantasies, which allegedly included rape, mutilation, and cannibalism. He has been accused of sexual assault by multiple people, all of which he has strongly denied.

The 35-year-old actor told TMZ at the time, “I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me.” He was referring to his two children, Harper and Ford, with his estranged wife, Elizabeth Chambers. Watch Saturday Night Live every week on NBC at 11:30 p.m.
