Attempted Murder Suspect in Lake County Jail Also Charged With Assaulting Another Prisoner, authorities reported that a Zion man who was being held in the Lake County Jail on attempted murder charges is now being charged with assaulting another prisoner there.
Marshon D. Knox, 24, of Zion’s 2500 block of 29th Street, was charged with violence resulting in bodily harm earlier this month. According to Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened on October 28.
During a period when prisoners were permitted to leave their cells, Knox entered the cell of a 24-year-old man who was a different inmate. Knox, according to Covelli, attacked the other prisoner by repeatedly striking him in the face and torso.
The other prisoner spoke up for himself. Neither prisoner suffered serious harm. According to Covelli, neither inmate acknowledged starting the fight, but Knox was the main aggressor.

Knox was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony, and has been detained in the Lake County Jail since September, according to court records.
These accusations are related to a gunshot that occurred on May 24, 2021, in Waukegan, close to Jackson Street and Belvidere Road. Officers discovered a shot-up 2019 Honda CR-V, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip, who at the time spoke to Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
The Honda, which had been reported stolen from Racine, Wisconsin, was parked in front of X Comm Wireless in the gas station’s lot. According to Florip, as a grey hatchback sedan arrived into the parking lot, an undetermined number of passengers got out and started firing at the Honda.
The Honda’s passengers fled the scene on foot. The gunmen left the scene after getting back into the vehicle. Officers removed multiple spent shot casings from the area, according to Florip.
Additionally, a loaded semi-automatic weapon was found inside the Honda. According to Florip, witnesses only told police that the suspects were two black males and a black girl. The shooting didn’t result in any injuries.
According to court records, a Lake County judge issued an arrest warrant for Knox in June 2021 due to his alleged involvement in the case. According to the warrant, Knox shot two males repeatedly with the intention of killing them.
According to court records, Know also has an ongoing gun case from Gurnee that was filed in November 2019 and an ongoing gun case from Zion that he was charged with in October 2020.
He is still detained in the Lake County Jail on a $2 million bond, and in order to be freed, he would have to post $200,000 in cash.
