Authorities in the Florida Keys Respond to a Boat Carrying More Than 100 Migrants. After a migrant boat from Haiti with more than 100 individuals on board attempted to make landfall near Islamorada Monday night, numerous agencies responded.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, about 100 individuals were rescued earlier in the day amid seas of six to ten feet. There were several kids onboard.
After dark, several passengers tried to wade to shore after jumping from the boat, but according to the authorities, the current washed many of them under the Whale Harbor Bridge.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent dropped a rescue rope from the top of the bridge to two migrants, who were saved. Officers from Florida Fish and Wildlife took others aboard a boat.
The 18 people that were saved have been taken into custody by the U.S. Border Patrol and will be processed at a facility. As numerous people were assisted into a bus, Local 10 News was present. Some seemed dehydrated and frail.
Until Monday night, U.S. Coast Guard personnel, Air and Marine Operations agents, and FWC officers were in the water.
