The Winter Games Done Quick will be held online in 2023 as a companion to the Summer Games Done Quick. The Games Done Quick organization tweeted that it would bring back the speedrunning charity Livestream event online rather than holding a physical event in Florida.
It’s official! #AGDQ2023 will be taking place online January 8th-15th!
While we would love to return in-person, we’ve determined that to provide a safe and welcoming event to all it was best that we move away from our originally planned location in Florida.

Games Done Quick held its first live event since the COVID-19 pandemic back in July. The charity event’s organizers have announced that Summer Games Done Quick will no longer be held in Minnesota due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Florida’s particular political climate, despite the hybrid format’s popularity that featured streamers locally and remotely.
Games Done Quick stated on Twitter that “we do not believe it is a safe place for our community” given the state’s “continued disregard for COVID-19’s dangers (including anti-mandate policies) and an increased aggression towards LGBTQ+ individuals, including the law colloquially known as ‘Don’t Say, Gay.”
Additionally, it stated that the costs associated with potentially breaching the contract to move the event elsewhere would be prohibitive because the organization had a contract with a Florida venue set to expire in 2020.

Games Done Quick is renowned for hosting several streaming events highlighting speedrunners from underrepresented communities and its main biannual events with diverse runners and commentators. All-female charity streams on GDQ include Flame, Frost, and Fleet Fatales. In June, the channel hosted a Juneteenth celebration that featured Black speedrunners.
Much of GDQ’s regular programming begins with the phrase “trans rights are human rights.” It is admirable that the organization is prepared to suffer a financial setback to protect its diverse community of runners and supporters.
AGDQ 2023 will be held from January 8–15, and all proceeds will go to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. On September 11th, registration for both volunteers and game submissions will start.
