Professional wrestler and Bohemian FC volunteer Dean Merton (aka “Alexander Dean” and “Sean South”) from Dublin passed away unexpectedly this week, and many have paid tribute to him online. Merton, a native of Ballymun who was 35 years old and well-known in Ireland and the United Kingdom, passed away on Monday.
A fixture of Over-the-Top wrestling in the 2000s, he also competed for ICW in Scotland and WXW in Germany. Finn Balor, as Bray native Fergal Devitt, is a former WWE Grand Slam champion who was taught by Fergal. He also made an appearance in Ireland and accompanied WWE icon Becky Lynch, aka Rebecca Quin.
The Baldoyle wrestler paid homage to Merton in an emotional post on social media. She told him he was one of the first to know about her potential WWE contract. Becky Lynch praised Merton for his early support of her career and honoured him on social media.
My pal. I wish you knew how special you were.
You were kind and genuine and talented and hilarious. I could talk to you about anything. I’m going to miss you.

“My pal. I wish you knew how special you were. You were kind and genuine and talented and hilarious. I could talk to you about anything. I’m going to miss you. When I got my tryout you were one of the first people I told. I’d pick you up and we’d drive to Bray together, talking about life and wrestling and CrossFit. We’d train in the freezing cold gym and laugh and banter and exchange holds. You believed in me,” wrote Lynch.
Lynch continued by saying that Merton was always there for her and that she would miss their time together.
“You were my friend and you were there for me through everything. And I was there for you. I wish I could have been there more. I’ll miss our chats and your jokes. I won’t miss working out with you cause you always killed me. Love you buddy. I’m going to miss you. Rest in Peace,” she added.

After WWE Payback, Becky Lynch has something to say to Trish Stratus.
This past Saturday night at WWE Payback, the feud between Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus was officially resolved. In the night’s first Steel Cage bout, Lynch beat the WWE legend. A heated argument ensued between Zoey Stark and Trish Stratus in the ring after the contest.
Stark used the Z360 on her coach before abandoning her in the ring. At May’s Night of Champions, Stark made her debut as Stratus’ disciple and assisted her in defeating Lynch. The Man used Instagram to offer a simple message to Stratus after she defeated her at WWE Payback.
Respect,” Becky Lynch wrote.
💔🖤 Everyone at Bohemians is devastated to learn of the passing of lifetime fan, long-term member and volunteer Dean Merton.
He followed Bohs far and wide, rarely missed a game and so often drove his many friends to games.
We send our condolences to all who knew and loved him. pic.twitter.com/LbuaHPARYm
