Benny Blanco’s Early Life
Blanco, who is Jewish and a native of Northern Virginia, began composing hip-hop instrumentals in his bedroom and recording his own vocals on top of them. A young Nas and All-4-One fan in 1994, he was introduced to music for the first time when he was given cassettes of “The World Is Yours” and “I Swear.” These early influences can be heard in many of his early productions.
After early efforts with beat creation and recording himself on his boombox, Blanco’s rapping earned the attention of The Source and executives at Columbia Records. For most of his childhood, he went to Thurmont, Maryland’s Camp Airy. Blanco eventually landed an apprenticeship with producer Disco D after repeated travels to New York City from his home in Virginia to connect with labels and producers.

Benny Blanco’s Career
Benny Blanco used to play numerous instruments in his room as a child and soon began to record his music as well. In the mid-1990s, he was strongly influenced by the modern music of Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones (“Nas”). At the time, he was a young boy. Blanco’s passion for music only intensified, therefore he began to record his own compositions at home.
With his amazing compositions, Blanco managed to catch the attention of the executives at Columbia Records. David Aaron Shayman, a record producer, hired him later on (better known as Disco D). After his apprenticeship under Disco D, Blanco was trained by producer and songwriter Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald (better known as Dr. Luke) (also known as Dr. Luke).
While he was in charge, Blanco was able to write and compose a number of well-known songs. Songs like “TiK ToK,” Kesha’s debut single, and “Teenage Dream,” Katy Perry’s breakthrough single, are examples of this. The most famous of Blanco’s compositions, “Moves Like Jagger,” was later released by the band Maroon 5.
His other independent productions were ‘Stereo Hearts’ by Gym Class Heroes and ‘Don’t Trust Me’ by the electronic music duo Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte. For their fourth studio album, ‘Overexposed,’ Maroon 5 re-teamed with Blanco after the success of their collaboration on ‘Moves Like Jagger.’ The record ended up as one of the most successful in the band’s history.
It was featured at the number two spot on the Billboard 200 and sold over 222,000 copies. Since then, he’s released a slew of hit singles, many of which peaked at number one. In the succeeding years, he collaborated with renowned artists like Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey, Camila Cabello, Justin Bieber, and Ed Sheeran.
