According to the announcement by the prosecutor’s office on Thursday, Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter took the oath of office for his ninth straight term.
In the presence of family, friends, coworkers, and other members of Carter’s team, Lake County Superior Court Judge Samuel L. Cappas administered the oath of office to Carter.
Carter stated that this was his eighth time taking the oath of office. “Can you believe I still get nervous?”
In 1993, Carter was elected to serve for the first time as the county prosecutor. Before assuming his current position, he worked as an assistant prosecutor and judge for the Lake County Superior Court.

Carter stated that Cappas administered the oath to him in the same chamber where he had tried his first case as an assistant prosecutor many years earlier.
Carter stated that he was “humbled by the support and trust I have gotten from the people of Lake County as I continue to execute my duties by the law” as he took the oath. “As I take this oath, I am humbled by the support and trust I have received from the people of Lake County. It has been and will continue to be a pleasure to serve Lake County in the capacity of the prosecutor for Lake County.
