David E. Kelley’s HBO series “Big Little Lies” is based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name and follows a murder investigation in Monterey, California, through a group of mothers’ perspectives: Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane, Bonnie, and Renata (Laura Dern). The first season ended with the shocking revelation of who was killed and who did it in Season 1.
Even after its first season began in February 2017, the show was nominated for a host of awards, including several Golden Globes and Emmys. Even though “Big Little Lies” was originally planned to be a miniseries, HBO decided to press forward with a second season because of all the great coverage.
The second season of the show debuted in June 2019 with a revolving cast that included several of the original cast members.
“Big Little Lies” viewers have been wondering if there will be a third season after the show’s second season was well-received and proven that the tale could extend beyond its one-book source material. Even while a third season hasn’t been confirmed, it hasn’t been ruled out either.
Big Little Lies Season 3 Release Date
Although the stars would like to return, Big Little Lies Season 3 has not yet been announced.
Season 3 of “Big Little Lies” is currently in a “good news, terrible news dilemma” at the time of writing. Some of the show’s stars have expressed their desire to see another season of the show. Even while no new episodes have been officially announced, and HBO CEO Casey Bloys has already voiced doubt that there will be a second season, there is still no official word from HBO.
After Season 2, Bloys told Entertainment Weekly, “To me, there’s no obvious direction to go or no obvious story.” Since I enjoy working with all of them, I would be open to hearing their best take if they came to me and said: “We have the finest take.”
Big Little Lies Season 3 may yet have a chance if the actors themselves are the only thing keeping it together.
Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern were caught on camera talking about a possible third season in 2020, according to ET Online. According to Witherspoon’s statement, “As much as we’d like to go ahead with it, we’re simply waiting for Nicole to confirm that it’s okay with her. We had a FaceTime conversation with Nicole recently.” “She just texted that we’ve had to do another one right immediately!” Dern said.
Speaking about Kidman, she appeared on SiriusXM’s “Radio Andy” in December 2021 (through E! Online) (via E! Online). During an interview with host Andy Cohen, she said, “I think we’d all love to do a Big Little Lies season three, you know?”
She even said that the four lead actors from the show might be interested in returning. When asked if that was going to happen, the Oscar-winner replied, “I don’t know.”
Big Little Lies Season 3 Renewal Status
The release date of Big Little Lies season 3 has yet to be determined, so we’ll have to wait and see. It was launched in February 2017 for the first time, while the second season was released in June 2019. Big Little Lies Season 2’s distance from a possible season 3 would be more than we’ve seen before, given that we’re already near the end of 2021.
Big Little Lies Season 3 Characters
Nicole Kidman has previously expressed optimism about the possibility of a third season, and she hinted that the rest of the cast would be interested as well.
In October 2020, she told Marie Claire Australia, “Usually once a week, Reese [Witherspoon] and I talk or text. As soon as she went back to Nashville, I was able to rekindle our relationship with her. We all just want to get back to doing what we were doing before. They’re in! I texted Zoe [Kravitz] and Laura [Dern]. [Writers] David [E. Kelley] and Liane [Moriarty] have a great plan for it. Watch out for this!”
Shailene Woodley, Meryl Streep, and Alexander Skarsgard were formerly part of the cast, so we can only hope to see them all together again soon.

Final Lines
The third season of Big Little Lies has not yet been announced. HBO aired the final episode of Season 2 on July 21, 2019. Since then, fans have been eagerly anticipating the release of a third season. It’s likely to happen, even though it hasn’t been confirmed yet. There may be some bumps in the road, however.
Some of the actors have expressed a desire to return. Season 3 of Big Little Lies is “not feasible” because of the players’ scheduling conflicts, but HBO president Casey Bloys has remarked that they’d be happy to greenlight it if cast members could work things out.
A third season of The Undoing may be in the works, according to Nicole Kidman, who stated as much in a press interview for The Undoing in October 2020. She also said that the cast and crew are looking forward to working again.
It was announced on December 7, 2021, that Nicole Kidman would be interested in reprising her role as Celeste if HBO were to air the third season of Big Little Lies.
The third run may or may not happen in the future, according to her. She stated, “You know, I think we’d all like the third season of Big Little Lies, don’t you? I’m stumped.”
Big Little Lies co-stars Laura Dern, Reese Witherspoon Zoe Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley would also love to return for Season 3, Nicole Kidman said when Any Cohen spoke about her co-stars “I’m confident that we’d all like the prospect of working together again. We’re all close friends. Laura sent me a text message right now! Reese (Witherspoon) and Laura were supposed to meet up with me last night, but…I had to work!”
Being around your friends and coworkers, and working on a great program like that is an incredible feeling, especially at a stage in your life when you think, ‘It’s nice to be in the company of people I enjoy being in.'” Regarding the possibility of a third season, she went on to say, It’s not on the horizon, but “yes, we’d like to do it,” he says.
Big Little Lies Season 3’s future is difficult to predict. The previous season of Big Little Lies had had its share of problems with the show’s renewal. However, Jean-Marc Vallée, who directed the first seven episodes of Season 1, firmly opposed the idea of a second season being produced later this year.
On June 9, 2019, the second season of Big Little Lies premiered, following a series of difficulties. After returning to the small screen for a second season, the show’s director Andrea Arnold and executive producer Jean-Marc Vallée became embroiled in an ego-clash over the show’s first few episodes, which were directed by Vallée.
Season 3 of Big Little Lies has yet to be officially renewed. We’ll let you know as soon as we acquire any additional information. Follow Devdiscourse for more Hollywood series news.
