Following a tractor-trailer crash and fire on the Bluegrass Parkway bridge over the Kentucky River on Tuesday morning, two people were taken to the hospital with injuries and burns.
According to Patrick Krogman, the fire chief for Anderson County, the fire department was called to the single-vehicle crash at around 6:30 a.m. Krogman reported that the semi-truck was on the guardrail when firefighters arrived, with the burning trailer dangling over the bridge.

The two occupants of the car managed to exit on their own and were transported to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with non-life-threatening wounds, according to Krogman. The accident scene was close to the county line separating Anderson and Woodford counties, on the eastbound side of the parkway.

All lanes of the Bluegrass Parkway were closed for roughly an hour, according to Krogman. He claimed that for hours following that, all eastbound lanes were shut down. Traffic in Anderson County was detoured onto U.S. 127 during the shutdown, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The transportation cabinet reported that the eastbound bridge had reopened by late Tuesday afternoon. According to Krogman, the tractor-trailer was hauling empty Mountain Dew cans when some of the load leaked.

He said that the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet sent out responders after some oil and diesel leaked into the river. He claimed that following the collision, which destroyed several hundred feet of guard rail, the Kentucky Highway Department inspected the bridge.
