Tuesday’s gunfight with police in the high desert of California resulted in the deaths of a 15-year-old girl and her father, who had allegedly murdered the child’s mother.
After a lengthy pursuit across the highways of southern California, Savannah Graziano was killed after a shootout between police and her father. Authorities claimed that the girl, who was dressed in tactical gear, died after attempting to flee the shooting by sprinting toward the sheriff’s deputies.
Shannon Dicus, the sheriff of San Bernardino County, did not identify the shooter of the teen and underlined at a news conference on Tuesday that all information is “preliminary.” According to several news reports, the girl was shot by deputies. Investigators are watching the shooting’s video.
After Savannah Graziano’s father, 45-year-old Anthony John Graziano, reportedly killed his estranged wife in Fontana on Monday and fled with the teen, authorities issued an Amber alert for the teen. Police stated on Wednesday that they are investigating if the youngster was kidnapped and that the father and daughter had been sharing facilities, including his truck, before the incident.

Did she suddenly leave? Sgt. Chris Surgent of the Fontana police stated. Or was she really kidnapped? We haven’t yet been able to explain that.
According to the sheriff’s office, a 911 caller on Tuesday reported seeing the suspect’s Nissan Frontier in and around Barstow, which is more than an hour away from Fontana. The pickup truck was spotted, and deputies pursued it for nearly 45 miles on the interstate (70km).
Anthony Graziano was “constantly shooting back at the deputies” during the pursuit, according to Dicus, firing multiple rounds into the glass of a patrol car and immobilizing another vehicle. On Wednesday, the sheriff claimed that “evidence indicated” Savannah Graziano took part in the shootout. On Wednesday, inquiries for comment were left with the San Bernardino county sheriff’s office.
After a protracted and tumultuous pursuit, Anthony Graziano’s car veered off the highway in the city of Hesperia, where gunfire ensued and Savannah Graziano sprinted in the direction of police, according to Dicus. He claimed that the fact that the girl was sporting a helmet and a military-inspired vest that could accommodate armored plates prevented the deputies from recognizing her as the person running in their direction at first.
A subject wearing tactical gear emerges from the passenger side of the suspect vehicle as it comes to a stop during the firefight, according to Dicus. “That individual begins to sprint toward the sheriff’s deputies and falls to the ground during the gunshots.”
After being taken to a nearby hospital, Savannah Graziano was declared deceased. When police arrived, they discovered her father dead in the driver’s seat. Police discovered a rifle inside the vehicle.
During the gunfight, a deputy was hurt after being hit in the face by shrapnel, according to Dicus. At the time of the shooting, neither of Savannah Graziano’s parents were on parole or probation, according to police.
Prior to the alleged murder of Tracy Martinez on Monday morning by Anthony Graziano, police said they had not received any reports of domestic violence at the Graziano residence. Investigators learned from family members that the couple had recently gone through a divorce and that Anthony Graziano had lately left the family home. Home-educated Savannah Graziano fled with her father, but her younger brother remained with their mother.

Martinez was reportedly walking in Fontana when her estranged husband picked her up in his pickup, according to witnesses. According to Surgent of the Fontana police, it was unclear if she had been pushed into the car. The moment they began shouting and fighting, he continued, “domestic violence was happening.”
Martinez exited the vehicle near a school, and Graziano fired a revolver at her multiple times, according to Surgent. When the incident occurred during morning drop-off, parents and children were compelled to hide. According to Surgent, Graziano ran away and drove to find Savannah, who authorities believe was probably somewhere they had been staying that day.
