Brandeis Bus Accident: According to the university, a Brandeis University shuttle bus crashed on South Street in Waltham shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday while it was returning to the school. The collision left one person dead and 27 other people injured. Julie Jette, a spokesman for Brandeis University, stated in an e-mail that was provided to the Globe early on Sunday morning that local emergency medical services sent the injured people, the majority of whom were Brandeis students, to nearby hospitals.
According to Jette, the identification of the person who passed away has not yet been established with certainty. Jette stated that the bus had been traveling “from a Cambridge and Boston route” when the accident took place at 10:45 p.m. Brandeis had contracted the services of the bus company.

“Brandeis has notified students, professors, and staff about the tragedy; we are offering counseling and assistance to students, and we will continue to do so over the coming days,” Jette said. “Brandeis has also provided information on the event on its website.”

According to the article, the firefighters from Weston rendered mutual help to their counterparts in Waltham.
