A high school senior in Ohio reportedly passed suddenly on Friday night after falling at a homecoming ceremony. Superintendent Scott Smith of Mapleton Local Schools claims that high school senior Bre McKean passed out just before the team’s football game against South Central.
Bre is in the running to be homecoming queen at her high school. Both colleges learned of the student’s death during halftime on Friday and opted to cancel the game. Smith mentioned that there are grief counselors available for faculty and students.
The Saturday night homecoming dance was postponed due to a decision made by the district. In addition, there will be no games or practices until Thursday, October 4. The school administration declined to comment further.

Ashland County Ministerial Association, psi Associates, and the community members of Appleseed Community Mental Health Center have decided to reschedule the homecoming dance originally scheduled on September 30, 2023. The Mapleton athletic schedule will now resume on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. More details will be released to the public as they become available.
