Global Times published a new report on the Thai drama “2gether: the series” on April 12, claiming that the show “is encountering a backlash in China” because of the event. The story noted a decline in Bright’s Sina Weibo followership and a fall in the show’s Douban rating from 9.3 to 9.0. Later that week, on Monday, the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok released a lengthy statement on Facebook in response to the uproar, in which they said, in part, that “the recent online noises only reflect bias and ignorance of its maker,” adding that the comments did not “in any way represent the standing stance of the Thai government nor the mainstream public opinion of the Thai People.”
