Buck Lane Elementary Fifth Grader Became Leon County Schools Spelling Bee Champion

Buck Lake Elementary School fifth-grader Gordon McLeod is celebrating his new title:

He took home a gold medal and a shiny trophy last month, but it didn’t come without hard work and preparation.

Gordon Mcleod becomes the 2025 Leon County Schools Spelling Bee champion. He is a fifth Grader of Buck Lake School. He won the gold medal and a shining trophy the previous month, all of that was happened by his strong determination and hard work.

“At some points, I felt like I wasn’t going to make it, but then I kept practicing. It was very time-consuming, but it was worth it.”

Gordon won in a spell-off with his classmates at Buck Lake Elementary on the northeast end of the capital city. He then went on to compete in the school-wide competition before taking the district stage on January 16.
The fifth grader won the spell off with his class fellow at Buck Lake Elementary on the northeast end of the capital city. After that, he went to the competition with another school before taking the locale stage on January 16.
