CARROLLTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – In Carrollton, Texas, The accident, which took place on Tuesday evening, resulted in the death of a Carrollton police officer.
Officer Steve Nothem was struck by another vehicle while working a DWI investigation in the westbound lanes of 1905 E. President George Bush Turnpike at approximately 10:30 p.m. on October 18. According to the police department, Nothem was backing up another officer at the time of the collision.
According to the police, the passing driver, named Phillip Parker, 82 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Nothem was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Plano, where a physician there confirmed that he had passed away.
According to the public safety communications manager Jolene DeVito, other policemen gathered at the hospital early on Wednesday morning as they awaited the transportation of their colleague to the office of the Collin County Medical Examiner.
Later on, the department sent their condolences for his passing by saying, “We are grieved by the loss of our favourite Wisconsin transplant, but we are comforted by the everlasting memories we have of his humorous personality, kind heart, and unique Wisconsin accent on our radios.”
According to the authorities, Nothem is survived by his wife, a son who is 13 years old, twin sons who are 6 years old, a daughter who is 1 year old, and numerous members of Nothem’s extended family.

After working for the Grand Chute Police Department in Wisconsin for a period of four years, he moved to Carrollton, Wisconsin, to join the Carrollton Police Department in March 2020. Nothem served in the United States Marine Corps prior to beginning his career in police enforcement.
According to the police, an investigation into what caused the incident is presently underway, and funeral arrangements for Nothem will be made as soon as possible.
According to Rex Redden, the Carrollton Police Chief, Nothem is the first Carrollton police officer to pass away while serving the community of Carrollton.
Nothem was referred to as a “genuine servant leader” by Derick Miller, who is now the Chief of Police in Irving but previously served as the Chief of Police in Carrollton.
“He never failed to put on a happy face for the camera. It brought him great joy to help others. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, “he stated on his Twitter account.
