WFLA-TV in PELL CITY, Alabama, reports: The autopsy of Cassie Carli, a mother from Florida, has been finished by medical examiners in Alabama, but rather than providing answers, the report raises even more doubts. According to the St. Clair County Coroner’s Office, which spoke with WFLA.com on Monday, both the cause and manner of Carli’s death are listed as “undetermined” in the final autopsy report.
Missing Cassie Carli, ex-court boyfriend’s appearance. Prosecutors in Santa Rosa, Florida, had all but decided to charge Carli’s ex-boyfriend and the father of their little girl, Marcus Spanevelo, with murder before the cause of death was determined. Forensic investigators in Alabama, including the coroner and the ADFS laboratory in Huntsville, spent a total of six months trying to discover what caused Carli’s death, but they were unsuccessful.

There are now enormous doubts about the case and whether or not investigators can prove Spanevelo is connected to Carli’s death after the unexpected verdict on the method of death described it as “undetermined” rather than clearly establishing it as a homicide.
St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell claims that just because state examiners were unable to rule out Carli’s death as a homicide doesn’t imply she wasn’t murdered.
Russell told WFLA.com over the phone that “undetermined” means “undetermined.” Spanevelo, who remains in custody, is accused of disposing of Carli’s phone, which is tied to allegations of tampering with evidence, providing false information in a missing person inquiry, and destroying evidence.
Sheriff Bob Johnson of Santa Rosa County, Florida, was very certain in his identification of Spanevelo as the killer of Carli after his arrest in April. Johnson predicted that Spanevelo would either spend the rest of his life behind bars or die by the needle. Here’s hoping the needle. WFLA.com has reached out to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office for comment but has not heard back as of this writing.
Cassie Carli Latest: The Alabama coroner has clarified to me that just because the autopsy didn’t rule Carli’s death to be from a homicide doesn’t mean she didn’t die of homicide.
This is important.
The ruling of “undetermined” means it could be anything, including homicide.

On March 27 in Navarre, Carli was supposed to meet Spanevelo to exchange custody of their 4-year-old daughter; however, she vanished without a trace, prompting a large search by law authorities, local volunteers, and Carli’s relatives and friends. The body of the 37-year-old was located in Alabama a week later.
Spanevelo was located and arrested in Tennessee; he was then extradited to his home state of Florida. After that, he was taken to the Santa Rosa County Jail, where he has stayed since. As the author puts it, “[Spanevelo] was completely uncooperative. And that’s a big deal,” Johnson stated on April 3 of his lack of cooperation: “He never collaborated with us.
That woman is the mother of your child; she has gone missing, and you refuse to help the police find her? It’s fairly revealing that you said that. The trial of Spanevelo, which was supposed to begin this week, was unexpectedly delayed on Monday. Trial proceedings, including jury selection, are set to begin on October 17.
