Chainsaw Man Storyline
Denji is a young guy living in abject poverty who, with the help of his dog and Chainsaw Devil, Pochita, is paying off his late father’s debt to the yakuza. A pact with the Zombie Devil leads to Denji’s murder by the yakuza, who have betrayed him. Pochita agrees to become one with Denji as a human-demon Hybrid if Denji will just reveal his dreams to her.
After Denji slaughters the yakuza, the government’s Devil Hunters from the Public Safety Division, led by Makima, approach him and convince him to join their ranks. In agreement, Denji joins forces with the blood fiend Power and the suicidal Devil Hunter Aki Hayakawa. If Denji helps Makima take down the Gun Devil, who is responsible for the worst massacre in human history, Makima will do any favour Denji requests.
During their adventure, Denji and company come across another hybrid named the Katana Man, an angry yakuza who appears to be working with the Gun Devil to wipe out a large portion of the Division. Kishibe, an expert Devil-hunter who does not trust Makima, teaches Denji and Power, while Aki strikes a bargain with the Future Devil, who predicts a “terrible death” for him. In a counterattack, the Division is able to apprehend the Katana Man.
Later on, Denji falls in love with a woman named Reze, who turns out to be the Bomb Woman, a Soviet Union Hybrid agent dispatched to capture him. Although she returns to his feelings, she launches an attack on the city, and Denji is only saved by the Division in the nick of time. After regaining her strength, Denji engages in combat with her and agrees to a proposal to leave Japan together.
However, before they can be reunited, Makima surreptitiously captures her. The world learns of Denji’s existence through the events of his encounter with the Bomb Woman. The Chinese hunter Quanxi, the enigmatic “Santa Claus,” an opponent of Makima’s, three American brothers, and a Russian woman tutoring a student named Tolka are all on the hit list of assassination teams looking for Denji.
The security team at Denji is fully equipped. In spite of being repelled by the brothers and Quanxi’s initial hesitation, Santa Claus launches a massive horde attack using their Doll Devil powers. Quanxi follows up by revealing that Tolka’s lord is actually the real “Santa Claus,” at which point she transports everyone to Hell and unleashes the Darkness Devil upon them.
