Chainsaw Man Season 2: Chainsaw Man’s first season was one of the most highly anticipated anime in recent memory, and it did not disappoint. With continuously high ratings and praise from fans, it became one of the most-watched shows of the Fall 2022 anime season. Chainsaw Man was, along with many others, one of my favorite series of the Fall 2022 anime season, and I eagerly await news of a second season.
In light of this, it seems complicated not to renew Chainsaw Man for a second season. However, as any anime fan will attest, even if a series is top-rated, it may be years before a second season is created. It’s unlikely that fans will have to wait too long, given how eager they all are for news about season two.

Chainsaw Man Season 2 Storyline
Pochita, his dog, and Chainsaw Devil help Denji, a poor young man, pay off his father’s yakuza debt as a Devil Hunter. Yakuza betray Denji and kill him for a Zombie Devil contract. Pochita agrees to become a human-devil hybrid with Denji if he shows her his aspirations. The Public Safety Division, directed by Makima, recruits Denji after he kills the yakuza. Denji joins Public Safety with Power, the Blood Fiend, and Aki Hayakawa, a self-destructive Devil Hunter, drawn to her generosity and beauty. Makima promises Denji a favor if he kills the Gun Devil, the deadliest mass murderer in history.
Several missions later, Denji’s gang faces another hybrid, Samurai Sword, an angry yakuza seemingly linked with the Gun Devil, who attacks the Division. Makima and devil hunter Kobeni Higashiyama survived the ambush, but several Division members, including Aki’s colleague Himeno, died. Denji and Power are educated by Kishibe, a great Devil-hunter who distrusts Makima, and Aki makes a deal with the Future Devil, who predicts a “terrible death” for him, to match them. The Division captures Samurai Sword after a counterattack.
Later, Denji falls for Reze, a teenage girl who is the Bomb Devil and a Soviet Union Hybrid agent sent to steal the Chainsaw Devil’s heart. She attacks, just saving Denji. After recuperating, Denji confronts her and accepts her runaway proposal. Before they can reunite, Makima kidnaps her for unexplained reasons. Denji’s confrontation with Bomb Devil exposes his presence and actions to the world.

Quanxi, a Chinese hunter, Kishibe’s former friend, Santa Claus, three American brothers, and a Russian woman presented as Tolka’s mentor assassinate Denji. Hirofumi Yoshida, a Private Sector Devil Hunter hired by the Octopus Devil, guards Denji. Santa Claus uses their Doll Devil skills to fight a vast throng while the brothers and Quanxi are rapidly defeated.
After Quanxi’s follow-up, Tolka’s boss, “Santa Claus,” transports everyone to Hell, where the Darkness Devil, one of the Primal Devils, defeats them. Santa Claus contracts with the Darkness Devil for some of its power. Makima rescues the gang from Hell, and Quanxi revealed to be a hybrid, helps Denji kill Santa Claus. Makima then beheads Quanxi and the rest of her harem. Kobeni resigns after the event.
After Denji recovers, Makima explains the Gun Devil is a geopolitical asset controlled by various factions. As Aki begs Makima to protect Power and Denji, the US president orders the Gun Devil to strike Japan and murder Makima.
Makima defeats the Gun Devil as the Control Devil. The Gun Devil becomes a Fiend after Aki dies in the attack. Denji, Power, and civilians kill the Gun Fiend with Aki’s life. Aki’s death breaks him. Makima violently murders Power while consoling him, revealing that she conspired to invalidate Denji’s contract with Pochita by ruining his dreams of everyday existence.
She calls “Chainsaw Man” to save her from Kishibe. Pochita runs with Kobeni, controlling Denji’s body. The government granted Makima immortality to use Pochita’s power to erase concepts from reality and establish a world without sorrow. Samurai Sword, Reze, and Quanxi brainwashed Hybrids to fight the Chainsaw Man. She wins after Denji’s heroic efforts are revealed by the media, weakening Pochita and saving Kobeni. Power revives as the Blood Devil from Denji’s blood flees with Chainsaw Man and restores Denji’s will to live by promising to find her in Hell.
Denji overcomes Makima with Power’s blood, then cooks and eats her body to avoid her immortality. Later, Kishibe reveals the Control Devil returned as Nayuta, a tiny girl. In Denji’s dreams, Pochita supports his request to look after her. Denji attends high school and fights demons in public.
Chainsaw Man Season 2: Renewed or Canceled
The renewal of Chainsaw Man for a second season is still up in the air. This does not, however, indicate that it is no longer happening. In this particular scenario, it simply means that there has been no official word that production has begun on Season 2.
Season two, or even a movie, announcements at the end of a series’ last episode are standard practice in the anime industry. Before delivering an announcement, several anime companies may hold special events or publish countdowns to build up anticipation. The method and timing of announcing a new season of an anime vary widely from one series to the next. Studio MAPPA is probably saving the big announcement for a big day since this animation has become so famous.

Since new chapters of the Chainsaw Man manga are being released regularly, Studio MAPPA has enough material to work with. Of the 12 episodes that make up the first season, only 4 have completed their respective storylines. That only covers the first four chapters of the manga. The second season of the anime, if it ends up being only 12 episodes, will most likely be devoted to those arcs.
