Federal prosecutors in the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, D.C., announced Monday that they would not press charges against two Secret Service agents who fatally shot a man in Germantown, Maryland, they claimed was attempting to break into the Peruvian ambassador’s home while brandishing a metal pole.
Charges against Secret Service agents who shot and killed a 19-year-old have been declined.
Authorities said in a statement that prosecutors found “insufficient evidence” to establish beyond a reasonable doubt that the officers used excessive force in the shooting death of 19-year-old Gordon Casey on April 20.
Casey’s mother, Ilmiya Yarullina, expressed frustration with the way the decision was explained to her on Monday. She claimed a detective informed her of it over the phone rather than in a meeting with a representative of the U.S. attorney’s office.

“This is reprehensible. Throughout the entire procedure, I was neglected,” Yarullina claimed. I feel degraded and damaged as a person.
In response to an allegation of a burglary in progress, U.S. Secret Service agents were called to the ambassador’s home in the 3000 block of Garrison Street NW just before 8 a.m. on April 20, according to the authorities. Employees at the property alerted authorities after witnessing Casey smashing windows and trying to break in. According to a statement from the U.S. attorney’s office, Casey had armed himself with a metal rod when staff members tried to stop him, but they were unable.
Officers arrived and repeatedly ordered Casey to drop the pole, the document claims. One policeman used a Taser.
Prosecutors claim that despite this, Casey continued to move closer to the cops and started swinging the pole at them. According to the statement made by the prosecutors, two of the cops then shot Casey again, and he passed away at the scene.
Prosecutors claimed that in making their decision, they considered police and civilian eyewitness statements, real evidence, radio communications that were recorded, forensic reports, the autopsy report, and reports from the D.C. police.
After years of battles with numerous schools, psychologists, psychiatrists, and drug treatment institutions, Yarullina had previously told The Washington Post that her son had restarted using drugs and that she had expelled him from their house. She said that she took responsibility for what happened to her kid, but that a deficient and inequitable mental health system also made things difficult for her.
