She was one of nine models that Rose Marie Reid Swim Suits of Los Angeles and the Eileen Ford Agency of New York City sent to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August 1957. At the age of 19, Holt allegedly got a $50,000 annual modeling contract in New York after appearing in many TV ads.
Reportedly discovered by filmmaker Howard Hawks in a Revlon lipstick advertisement, she starred in numerous of Hawks’ films, including Man’s Favorite Sport and El Dorado. The Wool Bureau crowned her “Miss Sweater Girl” the same month in 1958. New York’s Savoy Hilton Hotel hosted the competition in its Crystal Suite.
