Here we are talking about Collegedale Train Accident. According to the Chattanooga ABC affiliate WTVC, a train accident that resulted in Collegedale’s derail on Tuesday afternoon injured two persons.
Around 12:30 p.m., crews from the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a collision between a Norfolk Southern freight train and a trailer truck hauling a 134-foot concrete bridge beam near Apison Pike and University Drive.
The train struck a trailer as it crossed the rails in a video that was shared on social media. On impact, the train and trailer were both obliterated. The truck driver was not wounded, but two Norfolk Southern personnel were, according to WTVC.
The firefighters are attempting to stem a diesel and lubricating oil leak from two of the locomotives, according to Chattanooga Fire.
There are currently no further hazardous materials involved. Both roadways will remain closed until the crash investigation is finished, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). The Collegedale Police Department tweeted a warning to motorists to stay away from the area.
