The death of Kiely Rodni, a 16-year-old from Northern California who vanished in August, was ruled accidental on Thursday by the coroner at the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, “this decision is based on the pathologist’s judgement that her death was caused by drowning and that there was no other information to suggest she was the victim of foul play.”
After allegedly attending a party with over 100 kids and young adults close to the Prosser Family Campground in Truckee, California, roughly 100 miles northeast of Sacramento, Rodni was last seen on August 6, 2022.
Authorities initially thought it might be an abduction because her car was also missing. The last known ping from Rodin’s phone was in the vicinity of Prosser Lake, although searches there in the past had turned up no trace of Kiely or her car.

On August 23, Adventures with Purpose, a private search team, discovered an automobile that was thought to be Rodin’s upside down and 14 feet beneath the surface of Prosser Lake. Inside, a body thought to be Rodin’s was discovered. Days later, the coroner determined that Rodni’s body had been found.
