Robbie Coltrane, a Scottish actor best known for playing Rubeus Hagrid in the “Harry Potter” movie series, is being remembered by his “Harry Potter” co-stars. According to his representative Belinda Wright, Coltrane passed away on Friday at the age of 72. Fans of “Harry Potter” may recognise the actor best as Hagrid, the amiable half-giant groundskeeper of Hogwarts and a guide for Harry as he negotiated the wizarding world.

Coltrane brought joy to the set, according to Daniel Radcliffe, the star of the “Harry Potter” films, who regarded him as “one of the funniest individuals I’ve encountered.” In a statement to USA TODAY on Friday, Radcliffe recalled how the actor “used to keep us giggling constantly on the set as youngsters.” “On ‘Prisoner of Azkaban,’ when we were all hiding from the pouring rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut, I have especially happy recollections of his keeping our spirits up.”

Robbie Coltrane was “the funniest” on site, according to Daniel Radcliffe, and kept the youthful cast in good spirits throughout filming. “To boost spirits, he was making jokes and telling stories. I consider myself tremendously fortunate to have met and worked with him, and I’m devastated by his passing. He was a wonderful man and a fantastic performer “Radcliffe threw in.

On social media, other “Harry Potter” celebrities, including J.K. Rowling, the author of the book series, expressed their sorrow. “I’ll never meet another person even close to Robbie. He was a truly unique genius, and I consider myself incredibly lucky to have known him, worked with him and laughed uncontrollably with him “Tweets by Rowling were posted. I express my sincere sympathy to his family, especially his children, and send them my love.

I’ll never know anyone remotely like Robbie again. He was an incredible talent, a complete one off, and I was beyond fortunate to know him, work with him and laugh my head off with him. I send my love and deepest condolences to his family, above all his children. pic.twitter.com/tzpln8hD9z

In his soon-to-be-released memoir, “Beyond the Wand: The Magic & Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard,” Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” movies, offers pleasant memories of working with Coltrane.

According to Felton, “Robbie was constantly quick to remind us that we weren’t there to cure cancer.” “We weren’t trying to save the planet. We were merely producing a movie. We should keep that in mind, try to chuckle while we go, and remember not to grow too large for our boots.”

Felton praises Coltrane’s exuberant sense of humour and willingness to participate in set practical pranks. Felton continues, “That was Robbie through and through.” He was excellent with children as well as adults, despite having a sharp sense of humour. Coltrane “was a big friendly giant on screen but even more so in real life,” Felton added in a tweet on Friday.

On Twitter, Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley in the “Harry Potter” movies, expressed how “heartbroken” she was by the information.

Heartbroken by the passing of Robbie Coltrane. Hagrid was my favourite character! Robbie portrayed Hagrid’s warmth, sense of home & unconditional love for his students and magical creatures so brilliantly. Thanks for all the laughter. Miss you Robbie. She continued, “My favourite character was Hagrid. “Hagrid’s warmth, sense of belonging, and unwavering love for his pupils and mystical creatures were perfectly captured by Robbie. I appreciate all the laughter. Robbie, we miss you. Love to you and your family.”

When filming the movies, James Phelps, who played Fred Weasley in the series, recalled his initial impression of Coltrane. Phelps posted on Twitter, “I will miss the random discussions about all subjects under the sun. “I’ll never forget the day in September 2000 when, as a scared 14-year-old on my first day on a movie set, Robbie Coltrane approached me and told me, “Enjoy it, you’ll be amazing.” I appreciate that.”

A scene from “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” features Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter and Robbie Coltrane as Rubeus Hagrid. At age 72, Coltrane passed away on October 14, 2022. As Dr Eddie “Fitz” Fitzgerald, a criminal psychologist who aids police in solving crimes in the ITV drama series “Cracker,” Coltrane shot to fame and won three consecutive BAFTAs for best actor.

In addition, he played a Russian crime boss in the James Bond thrillers “GoldenEye” and “The World is Not Enough,” provided the voice of Despereaux in the animated movie “The Tale of Despereaux” with his “Potter” co-star Emma Watson, and had roles in the 2004 film “Ocean’s Twelve” and the 2016 miniseries “National Treasure.” Coltrane received an OBE from Queen Elizabeth II in 2006.
