Daniil Medvedev was born in Moscow, Russia on February 11, 1996, to Olga and Sergey, a computer engineer. Julia and Elena are his two older sisters. When Medvedev was six years old, his mother saw an advertisement for group tennis instruction and urged him to sign up. He grew up playing guitar and harpsichord in addition to tennis. Daniil Medvedev Career
Medvedev competed in his first junior tennis match in Estonia in the summer of 2009. He won his first junior title the following year, in only his third competition. His breakthrough season was 2012-13 when he won six championships. Medvedev also competed in the Junior US Open after making his junior Grand Slam debut at Junior Wimbledon. He rose to world No. 13 in the junior rankings in early 2014. Medvedev’s junior career ended with a first-round loss in the 2014 Junior Wimbledon.
Medvedev made his ATP debut in 2015 at the Kremlin Cup, when he competed in the doubles tournament partnering Aslan Karatsev. He made his ATP singles debut the following year at the Nice Open. Three weeks later, at the 2016 Ricoh Open, Medvedev won his maiden ATP World Tour singles title. He reached his first ATP singles final in early 2017, losing to Roberto Bautista Agut. Later that year, at the Wimbledon Championships, he defeated Stan Wawrinka to win his first Grand Slam match.
Medvedev had a solid start to the 2018 season by defeating Alex de Minaur in the Sydney International final. He then won his second ATP title in the Winston-Salem Open, as well as his first ATP 500 title in Tokyo. Medvedev finished the 2018 season with the most ATP Tour hard-court match victories (38).
The following season, he had another great start, reaching the final of the Brisbane International and the round of 16 of the Australian Open, but losing in both. Later, in the Sofia Open, Medvedev won his fourth ATP title. He eventually made a reputation for himself on North American hard courts, reaching four tournament finals and winning his first Masters title. Following this triumph, Medvedev won the St. Petersburg Open on his home turf, becoming the first Russian player to do it in 15 years. He went on to win his second Masters title in a row in Shanghai.
