American designer and TV host David Reed Bromstad was born on August 17, 1973. He won the first season of HGTV’s Design Star in 2006. Among the HGTV shows he has hosted are “Color Splash,” “Beach Flip,” and “My Lottery Dream Home.”
In Cokato, Minnesota, Bromstad was born to parents Diane Marlys Bromstad (née Krueger) and Richard Harold David Bromstad, the youngest of four children. His mother and father are Norwegian, although he has Swedish and German ancestry through his mother.
Dean Richard Bromstad, Dynelle Renee Bromstad, and Dyonne Rachael Bromstad are his older brothers and sisters. He decided in high school to become a Disney animator because of his lifelong passion for art and design.
He got his education at Florida’s Ringling College of Art and Design, which has a reputation as a stepping stone to jobs at Disney. Soon after completing college, he found work as an illustrator for Disney.
David Bromstad’s Career
After being put on leave as an illustrator for Disney, he decided to create his own business and called it Bromstad Studio. Bromstad relocated to Miami Beach at the recommendation of a friend to compete in HGTV’s Design Star. This reality program competition selected a host for a new show that would air on the HGTV cable network.
On Design Star, Bromstad competed against nine other people who had the potential to become designers. He triumphed over his competitors and was awarded the grand prize: a car and the opportunity to host his program on HGTV.
During the second season of HGTV Design Star, Bromstad appeared as a guest on the show, both as a guest judge in the first episode and as a source of inspiration and encouragement for the contestants competing in “Challenge 7: Island Dreams.” Beginning with Season 6, he served as a mentor, and starting with Season 7, he hosted.
He was the host of Design Star All-Stars in the year 2012. In the second season of Rock the Block, he competed alongside designer Tiffany Brooks and was a contestant on HGTV’s Design at Your Door. He also had an appearance on that show. In addition, he has been seen on episodes of HGTVd, HGTV Showdown, and Bang for Your Buck. My Lottery Dream Home was the first broadcast in Bromstad in 2015.
David Bromstad’s Personal Life
It’s no secret that Bromstad is queer. His residence in Orlando, Florida, known as “David’s Dream Home,” was highlighted on the reality television program “My Lottery Dream Home.” He is said to have an “addiction” to tattoos, and the designs he chooses often reflect his passion for his family, color, LGBT pride, and for Disney. He was the first figure from HGTV to be included on Out magazine’s list of the 100 most influential LGBTQ persons, known as the Out100.
