Delonte West NBA Career
While participating in the 2004 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics selected Delonte West with the 24th overall pick. Due to persistent ailments, he was limited to just 39 games during his rookie campaign. For the 2005-2006 season, West was the starting point guard despite being a rookie. Beginning with the 2006-07 season, West played there instead of at point guard. Unfortunately for West, he had a rough start and had to switch positions with the team’s starting point guard.
West was part of a three-team deal that sent him to the Seattle Supersonics in 2007 and then the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2008. Only six days after being traded to the Cavaliers, West scored 20 points, his season high. West signed a three-year, $12.7 million contract with the Cavaliers in late 2008. West took up the position of shooting guard and backup point guard.
As he developed into a top-tier defensive backcourt player and a prolific three-point threat, West’s play drew some curious glances. West was moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves by the Cavaliers, although his stay there was brief. West re-signed with his previous team, the Boston Celtics, for a single season in late 2010, serving as Rajon Rondo’s backup.
After the defendant pleaded guilty to firearms charges, all communication abruptly ceased. Delonte spent 2011 and 2012 with the Dallas Mavericks. He then spent a few years playing overseas.

Delonte West Personal Life
Throughout his life, West has struggled, and in his teens, he became addicted to drugs. He attempted rehabilitation numerous times. After initially accepting the diagnosis of bipolar disorder in 2008, he then rescinded it, attributing his mood swings and anxiety to pressures associated with basketball. The next year, the police stopped him for speeding and discovered two revolvers in his car; he was subsequently jailed.
As a result, West was suspended for part of the 2010 campaign. Although West provided generously for his loved ones, he found himself in financial need in 2011 and took a job at Home Depot. He tied the knot with Caressa Madden in 2013, and they now have two sons.

In 2016, West was rumoured to be homeless after being seen walking around town barefoot. It wasn’t until 2020 that Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, saw a photo of the former basketball player panhandling and offered to help. Cuban paid for West’s rehabilitation programme and provided him with a home to live.
By 2021, West had found employment at the centre and was back with his loved ones. Later that year, he was arrested again for drunkenness at the station. According to the latest reports, the ex-devoted player’s following has taken to panhandling for financial support. After a prosperous career in the NBA, he is the athlete who has regrettably hit rock bottom.
Despite West’s hopelessness, his wife has not yet divorced him. However, after enduring life in a poorly kept home, she is now back with her family. During his time with the Cavaliers, West was well-known for his partnership with LeBron James.

It is projected that by the year 2022, Delonte West will have earned $1,000. While in the NBA, he made an estimated $16 million, or roughly $1.6 million per season; the Dallas Mavericks offered him a respectable $1.3 million while he played for them. He appears to be begging for money at the moment.
Delonte West Financial & Personal Issue
Delonte has had personal and financial issues throughout his career while earning $14 million in salary (before taxes and fees). All of his jewellery and several cars were supposedly sold off and he was forced to live out of the Mavericks locker room during the NBA lockout. During this period, he also applied for a temporary work at Home Depot to make ends meet.
Reportedly, West spent a fortune on lawyers and settlements related to his divorce and other legal battles. Delonte was spotted in August of 2019 looking a bit down on his luck and possibly homeless. A few months prior, he was captured on camera wandering the shoeless parking lot of a fast food restaurant.
Delonte was caught on camera begging in the streets of Dallas, Texas, in September of 2020. West was rescued from the streets by Mavericks owner Mark Cuban after he won. Mark admitted West to a rehabilitation centre for substance abuse. Once upon a time, it appeared that Delonte’s luck had turned around. He was back with his family and working at the rehabilitation centre.
Delonte was arrested in Florida that October of 2021.
