Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded to weeks of taunting from Donald Trump with a straightforward retort: just look at the “scoreboard.” DeSantis, who has left the door open to running for president in 2024, gave his first public response to the personal barbs made by Trump and his backers during a press conference on Tuesday.
Well, you know, one of the things I’ve learned in this position is that you have to take incoming fire when you’re doing, leading, and getting things done. “And it never stops attacking, and this just happened. Over the course of my four-year administration, I don’t believe any governor was attacked more than I was, especially by corporate media.

“We concentrated on leadership and results. To cheers from the audience, Ron DeSantis continued, “And, you know, at the end of the day, I would simply urge people to go check out the scoreboard from last Tuesday night. Furthermore, the truth is. You know, the fact of the matter is that we believe it to have been the biggest Republican victory in Florida history.
The Daily Beast contacted a Trump spokeswoman for comment, but they did not respond right away. Trump has heard a variety of suggestions on how to go after DeSantis when it comes to doing so. In response to DeSantis’ comments from Tuesday, a seasoned Trump aide told The Daily Beast, “No attacks.” “Same team,” they said, repeating the counsel they’d given to the prior president.
However, few people in Trump’s inner circle think they can stop the former president from resorting to his usual insults. Another source previously told The Daily Beast that Trump will treat DeSantis and his wife the same way he treated Cruz and his wife.
The two senior members of the Republican Party have long been embroiled in conflict. But on Thursday, Trump made a long, meandering diatribe in which he sharply criticized DeSantis, whom he has dubbed “Ron DeSanctimonious.”
In the statement, Trump applauded DeSantis’ ascent within the GOP and criticized DeSantis for “playing games” when he was questioned about perhaps running for president in 2024. In jest, Trump remarked, “Well, in terms of loyalty and class, that’s really not the correct answer,” referring to DeSantis’ failure to respond to a reporter’s query about 2024.
Late on Monday night, Trump feigned gratitude for DeSantis’ support of him during the most recent reelection campaign on his social media network Truth Social. He re-used an old DeSantis campaign advertisement and exclaimed, “Thanks, Ron!”
The former president plans to make his 2024 presidential bid announcement on Tuesday night at his Mar-a-Lago club, according to The Daily Beast. A Trump adviser told The Daily Beast, “I’m sure there will be rivals.” But nothing is off the table, so they better arrive prepared for battle.
