Eventually, it comes to light that Mae ran away from a devil-worshipping cult in the rural county next door. Devil In Ohio Season 2 Storyline
The Netflix Original opens with a lady rushing through a cornfield in a nightgown. As she waves down passing automobiles, it’s clear she’s escaping from something or someone. We meet our primary characters after the opening credits. Dr. Suzanne Mathis (Deschanel), her husband Peter (Sam Jaeger), and their three kids Jules, Helen, and Dani (Naomi Tan).
Suzanne rushes to the hospital after getting a call about the same teen who ran away at the beginning of the episode. The scared girl doesn’t want to communicate, but she immediately likes Suzanne.
Helen is a popular high schooler who doesn’t hang together with Jules. Jules sticks to herself but has a wonderful friend in Isaac (Jason Sakaki). She enjoys photography and uses the school’s lab.
Jules has a crush on the school newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Sebastian (Evan Ellison). Journalism and photography are regular topics of conversation. Sebastian offers Jules a newspaper column. Peter, a former contractor, flipped a house. Despite his efforts, no one wants to buy the house.
This causes him a lot of stress, and he’s not totally honest with Suzanne about it. Alex contacts Suzanne and Mae just before Thanksgiving dinner with important news. He tells Suzanne that Teddy’s missing SUV was located near Amontown. Alex learned from surveillance footage that Mae brought the white roses and arranged them up to appear triggered.
A floral shop confirmed a young woman bought them. Alex says Mae stole Teddy’s car and traveled to Amontown. Suzanne hangs up and walks to the table, scared. Mae begs her to eat, and we see a new shrine in the garden. Now Mae and Suzanne’s images are in the middle, which can be read in many ways.
It may imply Suzanne and Mae are the next cult sacrifices, or it could just mean Mae is enamored with Suzanne and won’t leave her side, despite Suzanne’s intentions to get her permanent lodgings. Suzanne seemed to be in danger. Since there’s no post-credits sequence, we can only guess what happens afterward. Devil in Ohio is a limited series, thus it won’t return. The ending may require a sequel.
