Doug Winkler, a social studies teacher and senior class adviser at Egg Harbor Township High School in New Jersey, passed unexpectedly on September 9, 2023, at the age of 54. He was a loving husband and father to two children and lived in Hammonton, New Jersey.
His passing shocked his family, close friends, coworkers, and students, who will always remember him as a dedicated teacher, a caring mentor, and a source of inspiration.

The school community in Egg Harbor Township was devastated by Winkler’s passing. Parents were informed of the upsetting news in an email from school principal Jacki Carugno. She claimed that everyone who had the honor of knowing Winkler would feel profound loss.
The school system will offer counseling services to the mourning children and staff, she added. She said that the administration would consult closely with Winkler’s family and look into methods to recognize his memory within the school population.

Winkler’s enthusiasm for education and dedication to the development of his students were also approved by Carugno. She praised him for having a unique talent for bringing history to life and for creating a respectful and welcoming environment in the classroom.

“Today was a somber day for EHTHS and the community as we mourn the loss of our beloved Social Studies teacher, Mr. Doug Winkler,” the high school announced Saturday on its Facebook page. “Mr. Winkler has touched the lives of so many as a teacher, coach, and class advisor. His dedication to his students and the school will be greatly missed. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.”
On the school’s senior class Instagram page, Winkler, 41, of Hammonton, was recognized for his kindness and compassion for pupils. His death did not have a known reason.
“On September 23, 2023, the class of 2024 lost our beloved advisor, Mr. Douglas Winkler,” the message said. ″Anyone who knew him understood how funny and caring he was to all of his students. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and all those close to him.”
The high school announced on Sunday that its pep rally, dance, homecoming coronation, and spirit week will all be moved to October.
