Drag Race Season 15: For Season 15, RuPaul’s Drag Race will be airing on a new network. On Friday, January 6 at 8/7c, the franchise makes its way to MTV from VH1 (where it had previously aired). The premiere date for the third season of RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, development has begun on three new international adaptations of the property, each based in a different country: Brazil, Germany, and Mexico.
Finally, Paramount+ is developing the first-ever Global All-Stars edition of Drag Race. Drag Race Season 15 Storyline
In terms of season 14 episodes, this one is relatively standard fare: a pleasant enough hour and a half of television with very little in the way of forward motion in the story. One of the things I’m looking forward to most about the finale is seeing RuPaul shatter the crown as Cady Heron did at Spring Fling, only to end up crowning all five of them anyhow. Each of them receives a $150,000 check (at that point, it’s more of a “stimulus check” than a “reward”), and everyone can continue on with their lives.
It’s challenging to identify something truly remarkable about this episode, but there’s also little to criticize. The queens, as in previous years, are juggling three roles. They have to write and perform verses to the current RuPaul song in between emotional breakdowns on the big stage over tic tac appetizers. It’s Ru’s new hyperpop album “Mamaru,” which features the slow jam “Catwalk.”
It’s impossible to dismiss Angeria’s difficulties in this episode, especially when they’re foreshadowed right away. This season has highlighted Angie’s antagonistic connection with rhythm. Whether it’s the Rusical or the girl group challenge, Angeria’s difficulty learning and remembering the choreography has always been a significant plot point. It’s therefore not surprising that Angeria had a hard time with this week’s challenge, which requires them to learn a group dance routine and then perform it just minutes later.
Michelle’s explanation of Angeria’s lack of capacity to learn choreography as an issue with her “inner saboteur” is the funniest thing to me because it’s a talent that dancers work on for years, if not decades. You know what? Angeria could totally learn intermediate-level hip-hop if she only had more faith in herself. Yet in both cases, the ultimate product is the same: a sweet verse, stunning clothing, and a slightly wobbly performance.
She gets booted to the bottom, where she is pitted against her closest friend Willow in a lip-syncing competition, much to the amusement of the show’s producers. And now, for the grand finale of lip-syncing, we have Angeria versus Willow. I know something shady is going to happen as soon as they announce the bottom two. Are we really asking two of the most popular queens on the internet to pick between their friendship and their chance at glory in this competition?
Willow Pill, the reigning monarch in Ru’s eyes? There’s an obvious whiff of producer antics, and I find it hard to believe that they’ll be walking away. Nonetheless, they do lip sync to “Telephone,” the legendary Lady Gaga/Beyoncé collaboration, and Willow absolutely kills it. She doesn’t miss a beat, uses every comic chance, and even involves Angeria in her shenanigans.
As a natural performer, she has little trouble adapting the song to highlight her abilities. That’s why it doesn’t surprise me that Ru says Angeria’s name first. After that, there’s no way Ru’s going to send Willow home. God bless me, I was right. It has been tedious to see Willow Pill survive elimination after elimination without any real benefit to the audience.

Drag Race Season 15 Release Date
The launch of Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race has been set for January 6, 2023. Considering the politicized nature of drag queens, it’s probably no coincidence that the show’s landmark season premiered on the second anniversary of the January 6, 2017 attack on the United States Capitol. Both RuPaul and World of Wonder have been mum on the matter, but the clues are there.
Having the reality show’s 200th episode air during season 15 adds even more significance to the season. Since each new season is larger and better than the last, and we fall head over heals for it every time, MTV has labeled this one the “BIGGEST” season ever, which isn’t saying much.
