To date, over 13.4 million copies of Elden Ring have been sold, and the series continues to gain new followers every day. You’d be hard-pressed to find a stronger Game of the Year contender than FromSoftware’s latest action RPG, which has been a steady fixture in the Steam charts since its release in February.
Despite the fact that many players have returned to the game multiple times (there are 6 endings, after all), the majority of the community is eager to see what the developer accomplishes next, particularly in terms of extra post-launch content.
Elden Ring DLC Leaks and Rumours
We’ve reported before that neither FromSoftware nor Bandai Namco has announced any downloadable content for Elden Ring. So, all we have are leaks and rumours until we have more solid information. The most convincing leak we have now appeared a few months ago. Barbarians of the Badlands is rumoured to be the name of the first Elden Ring downloadable content pack.
Also, the DLC is expected to drop in the third quarter of FY2023, per the aforementioned leak. The months of January, February, and March of 2023 constitute Q3 of FY2023. Our anticipated launch date is consistent with this. This information was stolen during the ransomware assault on Bandai Namco in July of 2022.

Elden Ring DLC Release Date
At present, there has been no official announcement of any downloadable content for Elden Ring. Consequently, this article is purely speculative and makes educated estimates based on FromSoftware’s previous release timeline for DLCs for previous games. The time elapsed between the first release of each FromSoftware game and its first post-launch downloadable content is detailed here.
Artorias of the Abyss was the DLC that came the latest after Dark Souls, 13 months after the base game. By their calculations, the first Elden Ring downloadable content will be released in March of 2023. And I think that’s a fair estimate for the release of the first downloadable content pack.
Quality and a true full-fledged expansion (not a little DLC) take time and resources to produce, and FromSoftware will want to invest in both. We’ve therefore settled on a delivery window of February/March 2023 for the Elden Ring downloadable content, with an announcement at The Game Awards 2022 (December).
Will Elden Ring Have DLC?
Both the developer, FromSoftware, and the publisher, Bandai Namco, have refrained from providing any specific information regarding the game’s trajectory at this moment, therefore there has been no formal announcement made. Having said that, FromSoftware does have a track record of delivering downloadable content (DLC) for its previously published games.
All three instalments in the Dark Souls series, as well as Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, received substantial post-release support and content upgrades. There have also been hints in press releases, with one of those releases featuring a remark from Yasuo Miyakawa, President and CEO of Bandai Namco Entertainment, who talks about “growing the brand beyond the game itself.”
Post-launch DLC is probably going to be one of the simplest ways for Bandai Namco to capitalise on the success of a game as important as Elden Ring. It is clear that Bandai Namco is aware of the necessity to capitalise on Elden Ring.
