Elon Musk Grants All Suspended Twitter Accounts Broad Amnesty, and he has warned that “superspreaders of hate” will re-appear on social media by announcing a broad amnesty for suspended Twitter accounts.
Next, a poll on his account that received a majority in favour of the idea, Twitter’s new owner announced that an amnesty for prohibited users would start the following week.
Former Donald Trump strategist Steve Bannon, right-wing UK broadcaster Katie Hopkins, and former Ku Klux Klan grand leader David Duke all have their Twitter accounts suspended.
Musk polled users on Wednesday to determine whether accounts should be granted broad amnesty as long as they haven’t “broken the law or engaged in egregious spam.” Musk did not say which legislation he was referring to.

The poll received more than 3.1 million responses, with 72% in favour of an amnesty. “The people have spoken,” Musk tweeted after announcing the outcome. Next week, amnesty will begin. The Latin phrase “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” which means “the voice of the people is the voice of God,” was added.
Musk’s announcement came just days after he unblocked the account of US rapper Ye, formerly Kanye West, who was punished last month for making antisemitic remarks.
He also reinstated the accounts of Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson, former professional kickboxer Andrew Tate, and former Canadian kickboxing champion Andrew Tate.

The decision for advertisers has never been more explicit: continue to support Elon Musk or safeguard their brands and make sure their marketing budgets aren’t being used to promote the propagation of hate, abuse, and misinformation.
According to Media Matters president Angelo Carusone, reversing the suspensions would convert Twitter into an “engine of radicalization.” Media Matters is a US advocacy group that tracks “conservative propaganda.”
