We are talking about Elon Musk Reactivating the Twitter Accounts of Some Journalists Who Had Been Suspended. After the results of the second poll he ran on the subject went against his planned outcome, Elon Musk decided to lift the prohibitions he had placed on the Twitter accounts of many journalists he had banned the day before.

On Thursday, Musk suspended several tech journalists from the website, including Ryan Mac from the New York Times, Drew Harwell from the Washington Post, and Donie O’Sullivan from CNN, for what he said were breaches of the company’s new rule about revealing people’s locations on the platform.

Musk stated there were too many options on Thursday after an earlier poll favored an immediate reversal of the bans. He then ran another poll for 24 hours with just two options: to retain the prohibition in place for seven days or to release the ban immediately. Following close to 3.7 million votes, users chose to lift the ban, with a majority of 58.7% to a minority of 41.3%.

A few of those users were allowed to rejoin the platform shortly after Musk announced in a tweet that he would lift the prohibitions on their accounts. Musk stated in a tweet, “The people have spoken.”

Users are not allowed to publish “live location information” that could “disclose a person’s whereabouts, regardless of whether this information is publicly available,” as the new rule prohibits this.

Musk claimed that the journalists had “doxxed” him. Still, in reality, they had recently published articles regarding Musk’s suspension of a Twitter account that had disclosed publicly available data about the movements of his private jet.

The account had posted the data in question in question. The stories produced by several reporters before the suspension of their statements did not include any information regarding Musk’s current location or any of his family members.

At the time this post was written, ElonJet, the Twitter account dedicated to tweeting his private jet’s whereabouts, remained suspended. In a related vein, the unwritten code of conduct for Twitter might be summed up as follows:

The suspension of the accounts of journalists who cover Musk has been roundly criticized by the journalists’ employers, in addition to other media organizations, the European Union, and the United Nations.

Even by the standards that Musk has established for the platform ever since he assumed control, the past day and a half on Twitter have been very tumultuous.

After the suspensions were made public, there was a Twitter Spaces event where Musk made a brief appearance and was questioned by a few journalists who had their accounts suspended but were still able to participate in the event.

He asserted that journalists were not handled in a manner that was distinguishable from ordinary citizens. “If you doxx, you are suspended. That sums it up nicely. At the end of the story”

Musk departed the event after being questioned further by the host, a tech reporter for BuzzFeed News named Katie Notopoulos. Shortly after his departure, the Space unexpectedly ended, and then Twitter removed the entire conversation entirely.

Musk stated that a “legacy bug” needed to be repaired, which resulted in Twitter taking the entire Spaces product offline for practically an entire day. As soon as it went back, Notopoulos discovered that she had been expelled from Spaces.

Additionally, Twitter went after its most direct competitor, Mastodon, by prohibiting users from linking to multiple Mastodon servers and preventing users from adding their username from Mastodon to their profiles.
